Immunity Boosting Tips anyone please?!

I had my second dose of Gemcitabine/Carboplatin cancelled last week due to rock bottom neutrophils. I had this problem throughout my course of FEC-t last year with many delays despite neulasta injections. Then I put it down to me being unde par after surgery but since treatment for first diagnosis finished in April I’ve been eating really healthily and exercising regularly, I’ve never felt better so thought I’d cope better with chemo this time when recurrence was diagnosed. Is there anything I can do to boost my immunity - preferably without supplements which may interfere with chemo???

Oh - also tried visualisation last time which did seem to help a little!

Hi Teej

So sorry to hear you are going through this again. I’m afraid there aren’t really any foods that will build your white cells up. Some people recommend some products, Erichnacea and probiotic drinks, but they aren’t safe for chemo patients. You could try drinking Pomegranate juice, or eating bilberries or blackberries, and sardines. I eat them tinned, in tomato sauce, lovely on toast or with a salad.

Didn’t your onco give you the Filgastrim/Neulasta injections  when you were on FEC-t?? I had Filgastrim - a 7 day course of injections that started on day 4 of each cycle. They do cause pain in your hips (that’s where the white cells are formed) but you can take Ibuprofen for that. I don’t know what day you would start with your new regime. I should definitely ask your onco about them.

Good luck

Teej, sorry you’re having to go through this gain. I used to have liver for my dinner the night before my bloods. Don’t know if it helped or it was just in my head but I got results x
