Implant over chest muscle

Hello

I had a skin-sparing mastectomy last September and had a temporary implant put in under the chest muscle. I have found this rather uncomfortable as the muscle contracts whenever I use my hand or arm and squashes the implant. I am always aware of the implant because of this - it feels rather like having an orange stuffed in my chest (although softer and flatter than an orange!)

Today I saw the plastic surgeon to discuss replacing the temporary implant with a permanent one. She has suggested I should try having the implant over the chest muscle to avoid the unpleasant sensation, but said that this is not usually done as there’s only the skin to support the implant. I’m left feeling a bit fed up about it all - especially as I was also told I wouldn’t be able to drive or do housework etc for 4-6 weeks afterwards, so potentially worse than after the mastectomy.

Has anyone else had an implant put over the chest muscle and was it successful? Did it really take that long to recover afterwards or are they just being cautious. It matters to me as I need to drive for my work. Am wondring if it’s worth all the hassle if it might not give a good result. Any info gratefully received.
