In limbo

In limbo

In limbo It’s Saturday 21st April & I was diagnosed (grade 3) on Tuesday 17/04. The tumour is 2 cm which sounds not too bad to me. I’m booked in to have a lumpectomy & sentinal node op on Weds 25th. At the moment, it’s difficult to come to terms with the speed of it all, and I feel as though I am totally in limbo. Just waiting for Wednesday really.
I feel really detached from it all.
Does anyone else feel this way?

Detached Hi brendairene,

I think you’ll find a lot of people experience that detached feeling. For me I think it was a way of dealing (or not dealing) with what was happening. Just too much to take in!! I was diagnosed in February and still get taken aback when I think ‘I have breast cancer’. Saying it out loud is scarey, but I’m getting used to it now.

For me it was easier once the treatment started.

Good thoughts for Wednesday!!

its hard Being in limbo land was the worst bit I found. You know what needs to be done, but feel like a complete chocolate fireguard with all the hurry up and waits. Waiting for results, getting dates etc…its tough going. Once you have definite dates, ops go ahead, you then feel like you are achieving things as you are then going through the treatment instead of sitting and waiting and hanging around which is the hardest part.
Its perfectly normal the way you are feeling, and it is hard to come to terms with, it does get a bit easier, you dont like it, nobody does but you just have to suck it up and get on with it if that makes sense. Good days and bad days chick, its not an easy road. Hope that helps

keeping busy Hi - I have had my op and just started chemo. I have had that feeling before the start of both sets of treatment. I have found preparing for the op and coming out helpful. Things like buying a couple of bras (M&s have a good range of post op bras) then stuff like handcream, Savalon and plasters and Marigolds for lymphodema prevention. Selecting a stack of library books DVD’s etc. It made me feel more involved in control of the whole process.

Hope this helps - you will feel better once treatment starts, I know everyone says this -it’s true.

Good luck Swanie
