inbetween normal and cancer

Hi all

I went back to consulant friday to have a fna on the 2nd lump they found. The first lump they told me was a fribrodema (sp) last week, and the consultant told me they would not remove it unless it started to cause difficulties. I went back this week and saw another registrar who told me they were now going to remove it as biopsy results showed a b3 lesion (which what i can gather is a lump that has the potential to turn malignant) but im not sure. She just kept saying its not normal but its not cancer, so im guessing its like when you have an smear test and the cells come back abnormal and you have treatment in order for them to not turn cancerous. Hopefully some one will shed some light on this. She said she will have the results of the second lump but the first one will definately be removed for diagnosis and then will be discussed at team meeting. I am to have a date for about 2 weeks time for op.
I cant help but worry in one hand shes telling me its benign yet on the other hand they want to take it out for tests.

Some light on this would be very helpful

Thanks sherrilou

Hi Sherrilou. I don’t know anything about your individual condition so unfortunatley can’t offer any advice. I’ve just found that posting a new topic doesn’t automatically mean it shows up under the latest posts on ‘community’ unless someone has answered, hence I am answering to make sure it flags this up so others may see it and hopefully respond to you.
Take Care

Hi Sherrilou.
Can’t tell you what your B3 lesion is, but I had what was initially diagnosed as a B3 papilloma removed just before Christmas. As I understand it a B3 lesion is most likely to be benign, but has something a bit ‘odd’ about it that warrants further investigation and is best removed. In my case it turned out that what was thought to be one lump was two; a benign papilloma and a benign fibroadenoma, both of which would have been perfectly safe to leave. However, I am really pleased to have had them both out. It turned out that the papilloma was what I originally went to my GP with and in the 8 days between seeing her and going to the breast clinic the fibroadenoma appeared in exactly the same place, leading both me and the clinic to assume it was just one lump. The mammogram and ultrasound I had didn’t pick them up as separate lumps, and the core biopsy collected tissue from both, leading to the original diagnosis. If I had had the fibroadenoma appear first, the core biopsy would have shown just that, and my hospital’s advice would’ve been to leave it where it was, and I would have been unaware of the papilloma, or anything else growing behind it. I am the world’s biggest worrier, and was totally convinced I was going to be given bad news when I went back, but have been completely discharged from the clinic, and as long as nothing else appears won’t be seen again until I get called for screening. I found the BCC helpline staff really helpful, and very easy to talk to. The staff at the hospital told me as little as they could, and I was on my own and not able to take in a lot of what they said, but found that a lot of the questions I had were answered via the helpline. Take care of yourself, and I’ll be thinking of you.

Thank you for your replies. Im glad your outcome was good and that you are now discharged. Im off on holiday tomorrow for a week so will try and forget it (as if) as what will be will be I suppose. I have had a look around old posts around this and as you say many are benign so thinking positive, just get that nigging doubt dont you. Hopefully others will post soon around the subject.
Thanks again
