Incapacity Benefit
Incapacity Benefit I finished treatment in December (mastectomy, chemo and radiotherapy) and am now taking Arimidex. I am weak and tire very easily, still needing an afternoon nap. I dont feel able to return to work as I dont have enough energy and couldnt cope with any stress of any kind at the moment. Is anyone else in this situation still claiming Incapacity Benefit? My doctor seems to think that I should be able to return to work now.

benefits I had my mastectomy and ld flap recon last May, followed by chemo and rads, this all finished at christmas, I also am not ready to go back to work and I am receiving Incapacity Benefit.
I work for the NHS, actually in the oncology dept where I have my treatment. After all this time I am still having problems, now waiting appointments for bone scan, lymphoedema clinic and Gynae.
It is a bit of a relief when you do hear of others who are taking a long time to recover. I thought it was just me. Hope this helps a little.
Best wishes, Sue
Benefit Hello Dilly, Janet & Sue,
Thanks very much for your comments and advice - I really appreciated your help. It makes me feel better to know that I’m not the only one struggling to get back to normal. I’ve been on IB for exactly a year and know that they will very soon call me for a medical and, as it’s just tiredness and weakness, I think it likely that they will be unwilling to keep me on benefits. I gave up my job because of stress just before my diagnosis and so am afraid of going back too soon and not being able to cope. Thanks again to you all and I wish you well with your own recoveries.
Janice.
