Indent in breast

Hi Everyone

It’s my first post and I’m feeling very anxious. I’ve been to see my GP today after noticing an indent across my breast when I lay down in bed last night, then another indententation down the side when I lift my arm in the air. The GP was lovely he agreed there were indentations, he said he couldn’t feel a lump but could feel a slight thickening and almost a cord going down the side of the breast.

He had referred me to hospital and said I would be seen in two weeks. I am so scared and don’t know what to think.

I am trying not to google my symptoms as it will make me anxious, so if anyone has experienced anything like this I would love to hear from you.

Thank you x

Hi Peonie, I’m sorry we’ve missed your post until now, as Anna says we try our upmost to pick up on all new comers as soon as possible.

You have done the very thing we would always tell you to and that is see your GP, I know it is a really frightening and anxious time and I’m sure you have googled and scared yourself even more, yes indentations can be a symptom of breast cancer but it could also have a perfectly innocent explanation too.

The best advice we can give right now is to try not to overthink and second guess what it will be and certainly try and stay off google. Nothing is going to change the outcome and the likelyhood is all will be well.

I cant say you don’t have breast cancer, none of us here can give you that reassurance but we do know that the majority of those referred to a breast clinic will come away with the all clear Xx Jo

Thank you Jobey68 I’m trying not to think cancer but can’t get it out of my head. I have no family history of breast cancer but do understand it can happen anyway. I did read about a condition called Mondor’s Disease and my symptoms do sound like that but Im trying not to diagnose myself incase I’m wrong.

Have you heard much about that?

Thank you so much for chatting x My appointment came through for 6th August. What has scared me it lists various clinic names and says suspected cancer! This has made me so anxious.

Is this normal wording on an appointment letter?

As Jo says Peonie, it’s completely normal wording with nothing to be read into it. The standard letters sent are quite routine. Any breast change is normally referred for investigation under the 2 week rule, hence the wording.
Thankfully, it means it does get sorted out asap. P

Thank you ladies for your support and advice. The letter is now in my diary ready for the appointment and I’m focussing on my family and work. Thank you for listening xxc
