Injections after EC chemo for 5 days

Hey everyone I’ve been given a box with injections to take for 4 days following my 1st EC chemo yesterday and I have to take them once a say for 5 days. I’ve heard different things on here about them making you feel achey/rough etc but is there anything I can do to help prevent this? Any other tips for them? Thank you :two_hearts:

@katie91 my nurse suggested doing them in the evenings so that I could sleep through any aches or pains and to take paracetamol after. I did that the first couple of times but luckily I haven’t had any discomfort at all. These things seem to affect everyone differently so I think it’s a case of trial and error and doing what’s best for you.

Hi , I had them for ten days after 8 cycles - and after you get used to it managed fine. At the beginning I may have had some aches in back and feet but they definitely reduced. I did them before bed - and for ten minutes before I put a freezer pack on my stomach - so I did not feel the injection going in. Best of luck , this time will soon be over I promise. xx

Hi Katie,

I would echo the other poster who suggested doing them in the evening. That was better for me.

The other thing I found very helpful which I didn’t do on the first cycle but did on later ones is to take paracetamol an hour before you do the injection and take them regularly for a couple of days rather than wait to see how you are.

Also take injection out of the fridge 30 minutes before you use it. I think you can get a numbing cream but I was ok without.

I am a total wimp with injections and had to get my husband to do mine!

I hope you get on ok.

The advice on here is sound advice. Wrap the ice pack in a towel first. A lot of people also take a Claritin at the same time as doing the injection. Before taking anything, just double check with your chemo team though as a precaution even though this advice has been given to people from their chemo team.

The first time I took it I found the pain really tough, but over time I did get used to it, and kept on top of pain by taking paracetamol on the days I was takin Filgrastim. It definitely helped.
