Hi I have secondary breast cancer but the big issue for me presently is inflammation in the spinal cord which is affecting my mobility. As a result my onc wants to give me intrathecal chemo which will involve putting a valve in my head and injecting chemo directly into the spinal fluid… Does anyone have any experience of this? I would be very grateful to have any feedback at all. Also another option would be to have lumber punctures instead of the valve. Ruthiewalrus
Hi Ruthiewalrus
I don’t have any personal experience of this, but intrathecal chemo is used in the treatment of haematological cancers, so I wonder if you would be able to find someone who could tell you what to expect, on an internet site for these cancers. But do keep posting here and let us know how you get on

Hi ruthiewalrus,
I don’t know if you’ve accessed our Live Chat service at all, but tonight at 8.30 p.m. Secondary Live Chat is running which is facilitated by a Secondary Breast Care Nurse and a Host, it might be worth you logging on with your questions here, as someone may just have the knowledge your are looking for. If you’re unable to join live chat tonight, do give the helpline here a ring and have a chat with one of the staff, they’re here to support you. Calls to the helpline are free, 0808 800 6000, lines open weekdays 9-5 and Saturdays 10-2.

Hope this helps. Take care,

Thanks for the suggestion Liz - I will give it a go. Ruth
