inverted nipple

Hi, I am 53 years old and I went to my doctor 2 weeks ago because my right nipple has become inverted. The doctor examined me and said he could also feel a lump so referred me to the local breast clinic.
The apointment came through for 7th September which means a wait of 4 weeks, my doctor said this was unusual as the apointments are usually within 2 weeks. So far I have been coping OK with the wait but today I am feeling really worried and dont know how I will cope with another 13 days of waiting.
Is there anybody out there who can give me any advice on this as I feel like I am going mad right now.
Sorry to go on, but thankyou for listening.

Sorry that you are going through this worrying time… I think appointments are taking a bit longer at the moment as people are having annual holidays etc… One thing you can do is call the hospital and say that you would be willing to take a cancelled appointment at short notice… (if you can do that work wise…) also check if the unit operates a one-stop clinic… at those they do all the tests on the one day and you can leave usually knowing if it looks like cancer or not… With other clinics they examine you - but then organise separate appointments for any needed mammograms or ultrasound at a later date - so it takes longer to find out…

Inverted nipples can also be caused by cysts or benign conditions like duct ectasia…

I really hope you get good news…

Take care

Theresa

Please ring and see if you can get an earlier appointment. 18 months ago I too went to my GP with an inverted nipple. I was fast tracked within 7 days, mammogram, ultrasound etc all done within 2 days at hospital and results immediately. It was not good news for me but it doesnt necessarily mean bc. Four weeks seems extraordinarily long. Is there someone who can ring for you? My head was all over the place.
I hope you can get an earlier appointment to put your mind at rest.

Thanks for your kind words, I have called the hospital today but they said they cant see me any earlier so I guess I will just have to wait. As you say it could be just a cyst or something. It doesnt matter how many times I am told that though, I still cant help worrying.
