HI J, hi Rhian, hi to everyone in Shropshire - been a tough day again hence my silence… (doesnt happen often ha ha!~) I have been hit with low blood count again and after yest, going up to 0.5 it was back down again today to 0;2, down i cant understand it, neither can the hosp, so its back there to Shrewsbury in the morning, for another blood test after my 7th injection in as many days!!! I will keep u updated re Mon 18th it all depends on the white blood count and whether I am up to the drive to Oswestry, I would so love to come and meet u all and if I dont then I hope another meeting is soon arranged cos it really will be great. Just got my pathology results back… aggressive infiltrating ductal carcinoma grade 3 and at least one lymph node contains a micro-metastasis, waiting further ct scans to see if spread. Chemo to start in 2 weeks. I have a needle phobia and panic attacks, when I had my breast surgery Dr.had to gas me to put in the IV, how on earth will I handle getting the port in.
Does anyone know of a doctor that will sedate you before inserting the port?

Oh naonie sorry to hear your news

I had my portacath inserted under general anesthetic most tend to be done that way, but i was living in london at the time, have you asked for it to be done under general?

r

Thanks Rhian for answering. I asked them at the RSH, and they said they only do with novacaine (another needle). I guess I will try begging.
Did you get treatment in London or Shrewsbury?

Hi Naonie
I have just had my first chemo at RSH on Friday 6xFEC and i have asked for a picc or hickman line to be put in but i only wanted it if it was done under local as i hate general. The nurses on the chemo ward at the RSH are wonderful and i am sure when you see them they will help you in anyway they can.
Take care Lv Melx

Naonie you are not alone with the needle fear i too am the same im going to see DR A on thursday to start the ball rolling i was going to ask if i could have picc or hickman line put in dont think i could face needles every few weeks unless my girls are with me i have to show them i have no fear but dont think its a place for kids

Naonie, my treatment was in London back in 2008/2009 , I am under Hereford at the moment just swapped

Thanks Honyebee and Beardie. I saw Dr. A last Friday, he seems very nice, but I’m so very scared of this whole process. I feel so isolated here with my friends and daughter so far away…thank goodness for skype. How did you handle your first treatment Beardie? I hope it went well and not as bad as it sounds. Maybe we can all meet up at the Hamar Centre one day soon for a little pampering.

Hi noanie-I see Dr A too and have found him excellent-he always pushes for the best available treatment.I see him on Tuesday for my annual check up-it will be 4 years since I finished chemo.I am really looking forward to Monday’s meet.
love Valx
