Is it ok to fly during radiotherapy treatment?

My partner has booked us a city break to Amsterdam at the end of my first wk of rads so will I be ok to fly?

Can’t say for other people or what docs would recommend, but I was absolutely fine with only slight pink reaction after 4 weeks. I only had WLEs and no chemo though.

I can’t think it would be a problem. I have rads to come but I have a friend who’s OH took her on holiday the day after she finished rads with no problems. Ask your onc or the nurses at the your treatment centre just to be sure.

I think it will be fine - but check with your therapists. Have a great time! Tina x

you can fly, but you won’t get insurance.

probably sounds really naive but going on hols on fri and have insurance thru OH bank account. do i have to tell them about bc? had wle, snb and finished rads july(no chemo) feel well and highly unlikely anything bc related is going to crop up? thanks, alex x

Only catch would be if you did have a prob (even an unrelated one) they may use ‘nondisclosure’ as a reason for not paying out.

Read the small print and err on the side of caution!

And always have an EHIC card, costs nothing, and covers you for quite a lot.

S

thanks, where do i get the card from? alex xx

always make sure you have the right insurance. it’s not just bc, but what would you do if for example you lost your luggage or passport? Airport staff also strike.
if you can afford a holiday, you can afford insurance. for us bc ladies insurepink.co.uk/ will take care of it, and are good value, though i’ve not had the opportunity to get away, would deffo try them.

To apply for a EHIC card ehic.org.uk/Internet/home.do

Alex - if you go on NHS Choices website, you can get a free EHIC card - some sites charge you! I did ours the other day!! Anne x

Hi,
I flew to Paris after session 26/33, I told the rads staff I was going and no-one queried it. At the airport I did get asked if my aqueous cream was for medical purposes, I think they though it was over the 100ml, even though it wasn’t.

With regards to insurance, if it is annual policy that was taken out before diagnosis some companies will still honour it. It is worth checking.

Just returned from Amsterdam oh what a very welcome break! Turns out I was insured from annual policy so didn’t bother worrying too much!!! It was worth it re energised and set up for the remainder of the rads. It was so important to get away just from a psychological point of view and I must have walked miles!

Is it OK to fly during radiotherapy treatment? Hey, it may be a bit difficult to get that darned bed on board the aircraft, he he. LOL. !!! chris x
