Is pain normal 9 month after?

Hi,

I thought I’d come here before I fight my way back to the breast clinic, but in February 2010 I have a benign complex sclerosing lesion removed, only to have to go back into hospital at the end of November 2010 to have another one removed from the same area of the same breast (the doctors weren’t sure if it was part of the original one that hadn’t been removed properly or if it was a new one as my ultrasound scans were never clear enough to tell). Now 9 months later my breast still hurts if I handle it too much or poke the area. Is this normal? Does it take a long time to heal?

Hi Seddy, i’m not sure about this but ‘bumping’ for u & hope someone else comes along who may know, hope u get it sorted x

not sure either, but I was told that lots of nerves get damaged by surgery and as they heal, send out signals. This can go on for around two years!

Hi Seddy

Hmmmm - it may go on for a while but the positive side is that this is very normal. I had two WLE chemo and rads three years ago and breat and under arm still hurt especially when tired, over use it (the arm not the breast ha ha) or drink too much!

Keep in there and do the exercises - it does get easier but takes a bit to go away.

Hi seddy
I had lumpectomy 5 years ago. I had my “voodoolady” pain for a long time. Called it that because it was like being stabbed with a needle in affected breast. I was told it was something I would have to get use to" by one Doc “but at least I was alive”. Another suggested I massage the breast when it happened. Good advice I’m sure but I don’t think my Head would appreciate me doing this infront of my class!!! The episodes are getting further and further apart but they can still take my breath.
I hate to give you the bad news but it does seem to take a long time to get over the damage done to the nerves. Keep getting help from BC nurse and the doctors and be kind to yourself.
Take care
