Is tax really so bad?

Last EC tomorrow so a weekend of big highs on steroids! Busy busy I am just can’t stop! Do you get steroids on tax? Also do you get antihistamines?

My premeds on tax included 2 antihistamines, anti-emetic and steroid.

Hi I has 3 Fec and 3 Tax. Everyone I spoke to had totally different SEs but for me 1st Tax was worse than Fec. Two days after having 1st one the SEs kicked in, it hurt just to try and move my arm when in bed, body felt like a dead weight and was admitted to hospital week later for a weekend as I was neutropenic, after that I was given injection day after my next two Tax and was totally fine. Good luck with the rest of your treatment and hopefully you are over the worse.

Debbie

Hi Jenben, this was my first tax and coming up for second one next week. I echo Deb Blue, had almost exactly the same experience plus shooting pains all over the body during the night and a very metallic taste in my mouth, which is slightly fading now. Also had a rash on chest and neck. The pains lasted as long as the GSF injections so I was able to have a good night’s sleep after that but I found I boiled then chilled on and off so was totally paranoid about my temperature (actually had viral infection before going into chemo). In the end I did end up neutropenic but now I know what to expect and at this point one week before the next one, I feel almost back to my old self and even made it down to the hospital to pick up my wig. By the way I have 3 TAX then 3 FEC. Not at all looking forward to nausea that everyone seems to have had with FEC. No such thing with tax, but I found Chai tea (twinings-cinnamon type spicy tea) and cubed fresh pineapple and melon god sends with the sore mouth and horrid taste. Eating almost every minute of the day to dispell the taste, will be huge by end of these three cycles! I also juice fresh carrots, celery, apples, pears daily to get vits and goodness back in. Got hairnet on tonight, it is coming out quite a bit now, and am told I’ll lose everything but hopefully my new hair will be a hell of an improvement on my old lank thin greasy stuff I’ve had to put up with for 49 years! Hope you get off lightly and wish you well on the next part of your journey. By the way, am I totally mad letting my cat sleep on the bed with me? The Happy Carrot

Hello Happy Carrot just wanted to let you know that I didnt feel nausea nor was i sick with FEC… like all the other SE’s you might not have it!

thanks all. happy carrot the se of nausea is controllable. I begged for emended which is a new anti sickness drug and it works a treat.

Hi, I suffered with tax, I had 6 of them, but my onc said he thought it was because I had already had chemo 10 years before!

I would have to agree with what a lot of the other ladies have said in that not everyone experiences the same ses, it maybe a good thing to know what might happen, but bear in mind, it might well be that you only get mild ses if any,

all the best to you, hope it all goes well Liz x

I had a really bad time with my 3 FEC, the nausea & exhaustion were the worst - but by the 3rd cycle I was getting used to it & knew what to expect & how to manage it, & could plan to do something in my “good” week before the next onslaught. I had my 1st TAX on Wednesday, so far no sickness, which is great, but I’m not sleeping well & having hot flushes - but otherwise I feel surprisingly OK, especially compared with this stage after FEC. I’m a little bit achy this morning (that might be the Neulasta), and I’m waiting for it all to get worse as I stop the steroids today…
However bad it is, I’m sure it will be better the next cycle once I know what to expect. And it’s all one step nearer to the end too!

Emend stopped me vomiting violently but when I was on EC, despite a cocktail of anti-emetics, I had 10 days’ worth of nausea each time, just like all-day feelings of morning sickness. All the Emend and anti-emetics did was to stop me actually vomming.

So nausea certainly wasn’t ‘controllable’ for me on EC. Everyone is different.

WRT Tax, I’ve had 10 of a course of 15 and it’s just been stopped for good. Day to day, it was so much better than EC for me but I have fibromyalgia and the two things are not good together. Everything about chemo is flexible and changeable so long as you let the Oncy know.
