this might be similar to other posts, but 10 days ago I had WLE and SNB. Now the breast scar is a bit tender, bruised and my breast is swollen, but the under arm scar is really painful. its not infected but it is raised and hard underneath. I’m wondering if this is normal or a sign of a heamatoma or seroma? I’ve got the breast nurse coming for a look tommorrow. But I wondered how long it took you all after similar surgery for the pain to go? I am finding the arm pit scar pain is wearing me down. it keeps me awake at night. I’m already on a Morphine patch for Fibromyalgia and I’m taking tramadol at night for the pain, but I still wake up every 3 hours when I try and turn over. The anaesthetist did say that because I’m used to high levels of pain releif it might be hard to control my post op pain, but its getting worse, not better in this scar.
It could well be a build up of fluid which is quite common and easily remedied.I had to keep returning to the hospital to have mine drained which wasn’t painful- more of an inconvienance.

after my WLE (march 09), my armpit scar was much, much more tender, swollen and firmer than my breast scar. i was concerned at the time and got it checked by BCN but all was ok. the scar has now healed well, i was told it takes longer to heal in the armpit but i think you should still get it checked out to rule out seroma etc.
hi not want to be negative but just like you pain in armpit down arm and even over shoulder not expecting that!! spoke to surgeon he said had to cut nerve and could take months to heal but 7 weeks later its well on the way to healing was given amitriptyline to take at night helps nerve pain made me groggy next day gave up on it but have spoke to ladies who said grogginess passes might be worth a try,chronic pain drags your general health down so be good to get some help. wish you well love sheena
Thanks for your replies everyone. The BCN came round today. I do have a small seroma. She said its not advisable to start mesing about getting it drained,just let mother nature do her thing. Actually its eased ever so slightly from yesterday. I knew i was right though and something wasnt 100%. My instincts often prove me to be correct.
