Is this tamoxifen?

Hiya started tamoxifen about 2 weeks ago and since starting have been really achey muscles and joints feel like in about 100!( I’m not am 27) it’s worst in the morning and at night.
Just wondered if anyone else has had this and if it could be a se of tamoxifen?

Hi, I have been taking Tamoxifen for just over a month and my joints feel really stiff and achey too. My husband commented that I get out of the car like an old lady! (I’m 48, so not as young as you, but not ready for the zimmer frame yet!). I would be really interested in hearing other people’s experience too, because I feel it is the Tamoxifen. Jxx

Hi Butterfly

I’ve been on Tamoxifen for 4 months. After about a week I started getting really bad leg cramps and a feeling of very very heavy legs! Anyway after a couple of months I changed to a different brand and the cramp and heavy feeling has now gone. If things don’t improve maybe ask your chemist for a different brand.

Hi, i have been on tamoxifen for nearly 2 years now, and am similar age, 25. Unfortunately aching muscles is a side effect of tamoxifen! I have had it some times during the 2 years, but thankfully not all the time, so hopefully yours will ease off a bit too in time! Are you getting many other SE? Hows the hot flushes/night sweats? Thats what really gets me down with these tablets, they are awfull lol!! x

touch wood so far havent had any major ones… woken up a few times feeling really hot but put our thick winter duvet on so could be that. Had a hot episode when i was given a horrendous birthday present by my inlaws but could of been embarassment!! I’m thinking either im in serious denial or I’m not getting them so far that are too noticable!! fingers crossed… each time i take it i think this isnt so bad then i remember i have to take it for 5 years!!

Hi all,

I have attached for you below the link to BCC’s publication regarding Tamoxifen, I hope it helps.

Hi All
I’m new to this site and have been reading the comments on tamoxifen. I recently had a mastectomy and immediate LD reconstruction and am due to start taking tamoxifen soon. I have heard a lot about the side effects of this and that some brands of the drug have worse effects. Can anyone please tell me which brand they are taking and what the side effects are.
Thank you

Ache ache and ache…! Been on Wockhart to start with…not too bad then generics coz docs surgery couldn’t get Wockhart and now APS…presumably coz thats what surgery has now!
side effects have been the same since about 3-4 weeks in…

I have been on Tamoxifen for about 3 months now, I had severe hot flushes to start with but these have settled down alot - they are not as severe or as frequent. My hormones have also been all over the place, I came pretty much straight off the pill onto Tamoxifen. It was no fun having my first period for 6 years arrgggghhhh.

Hi. I’ve been on Tamoxifen for 6 weeks now and am also like an 80 year old when I walk. Also worse morning and night (I’m 50 and used to be very active!!) Now its an effort to put my feet on the floor especially after sitting even for a short time due to the aches in my calves. The specialist oncology nurse told me it’s the Tamoxifen and it should settle down.

Hi all,

Certainly sounds like SE I’m 44 and have not had a period since I started chemo back in April this year, waiting to start rads but am on herceptin and tamoxifen and same again for 5 years. Main SE are the worst hot flushes and sweats literally pouring off my forehead and I go red which means everyone knows I’m getting the flushes, been on tami since Oct and HF dont seem to be getting any better, also just starting to get the aches and pains especially in my feet and legs, also get very aware of my ovaries cant really describe it just really aware of them a bit like period pain but not quite the same. The first few weeks were the worst as I was extremely emotional thats all calmed down now not so teary, have spoken with my GP about anti-depressants (certain low dose anti-d’s are used to help with the HF) he said try taking fig leaf tea or if that does not work I’m going on a anti-d.

Hope this helps
Love and light
