Is this the start of secondaries?

A bit of background… dx in Sept 08 Grade 2 invasive lobular, lumpectomy,3 nodes involved, fec, radiotherapy & now tamoxifen.
Just been to my oncologist for my check up and mentioned the niggling back pain that I have which worsens at night… on the journey home her secretary phoned to say MRI scan has been booked for Thursday this week. I wasn’t scared but now I am!! Suddenly all the implications are looming in front of me… Has anyone else had symptoms like this at all?
Hubby is about to go away on business trip- he wants to cancel and youngest has just started uni…
Any advice very welcome
Beth

Hi Beth
It sounds like you have an oncologist that cares and listens. I have too, and he sent me for a MRI scan 2 weeks ago, luckily all was clear. Often it’s just to make sure, but what ever the outcome you seem to be in good hands. Try to live one day at a time. I know its is a worrying time and this is the place to come to get support from people who really understand, cos they have been there.
All the best
Maria

Hello Beth,

I’m sorry I’m not replying with any advice but just to say I know how you’re feeling as the same thing has happened to me.

At a routine follow-up appointment with my onc, almost as an afterthought, I Mentioned niggly pains and now I’m having an MRI scan on Thursday too.

After feeling happy and positive after bilateral mastectomy, full node clearance and chemotherapy, I now feel as frightened as I did last December when first diagnosed.

I will be thinking of you on Thursday

Lots of hugs x

Hi Beth

You don’t say how old you are, but I hardly know anyone that is 40 plus and doesn’t have some back pain - it could be so many things. If the pain is worse at night it could be your mattress, or that you have been sitting in a chair or sofa all evening that has set it off. It’s a good idea to get it checked out, but try not to worry too much - I know, easier said than done.

Thanks for all your kind words… Lella I will also be thinking of you on Thursday!
Flinty- I’m 46 and have already thought about the mattress- its very good quality and only 18 months old…so not that.
I have had the constant lull of pain for the last 7 weeks…

Hi all

I wonder if someone can help me? My mum has this week been told that she has a ‘local recurrence’ in the skin across both breasts (she has had two mastectomies…although not done at the same time). Is this the start of secondary cancer…or is a local recurrence something different?

I hope someone can shed some light…I’m very confused!

Thank you!

Laura

Just to let you all share my good news… I have just received my results from the Oncologist for my back MRI… I must be the only person that when she was told she had “degenerative spinal erosion” cried with happiness… I am just so relieved.
Lella - let me know how you have got on with your scan - I have been thinking about you.
Laura - very best wishes to your mum

xx

hey bethy, am also so pleased that you just have a rubbish spine. Your relief comes straight through the page, hope you are able to mark such good news.

Vickie

Oh Bethy I cried when I read your post - what wonderful news - it’s strange isn’t it that we are grateful to hear we’ve ‘only’ got breast cancer. You must be SO relieved.

I had my MRI last Thursday but unfortunately have to wait 2 weeks for the results - taking a day at a time. Your news has made feel me so much more positive.

Hugs x

Bethy, your relief is tangible!! I’m so pleased for you, it’s fantastic finding out we’re not facing an even harder battle. I guess we have to live with the fears for the rest of our lives.

Jane

Delighted for you. We really have to enjoy the good news. Debx

Hi Bethy

Wanted to share my good news with you … results of spine MRI show a prolapsed disc!

Can’t describe the relief after 5 weeks of dread. We are walking on air this weekend.
