Ist FEC of 6 yesterday. anyone in similar position

Hi I had my first FEC, of six yesterday. I was very nervous and am now relieved yesterday is over. On a positive note it was better than I anticipated. So far so good.
I did the cold capping, which I found very comforting. Having commenced Tamoxifen, between surgery and chemo (to enable me to go on my family holiday) The hot flushes have been very regular, the cold cap during chemo really soothed the flushes, I kept it on longer than the required time because it was so soothing!! Maybe a cold cap for menopause would be a good thing!!!
If anyone else is in a similar position I would love to hear how you are doing, and how your coping mechanism’s are working!!!
I took myself off for a 3 mile walk round a lake this morning, it was brilliant just me and my ipod!!!

This site appears to be full of positive people, it is a real boost to read other peoples comments and ideas,.
It is a very scary time.

Hi Kime,
I had my 1st FEC of 3 two weeks ago and it hasn’t been too bad, i did feel a bit rough, mainly nausea for about 3 days afterwards but since then pretty much back to normal. I too had the cold cap and although i was the only one there wearing one it was ok, it was quite amusing having to wait for my head to defrost before i could get it off again. So far the hair loss is minimal, on my head that is! elsewhere its shedding at a rate of knots, mind you saves on razors i guess.
I ate a lot of dry jacobs crackers and drank galons of water for the nausea and someone on here suggested ginger biscuits and flat ginger beer for it too which i shall be trying next time as i love ginger.
My next lot is due on 23rd August and at least this time i know whats going to happen and wont be so nervous as like you said its a scary time and its hard for others to quite understand just how you are feeling unless they have been there themselves. I have read so many posts in here and they have een so helpful and positive its made me feel so mch better.
take care

Hi Sue

Looking forward to the leg hair loss, it will be a nice rest to miss out on the constant shaving!!

Good luck with your next chemo on 23rd.

I will try the ginger.

Hi Kim

I had my first chemo last wednesday, got 3 x FEC and 3 x taxotere over 18 weeks. Not allowed cold cap treatment as got secondaries on liver, but also was told as got fine blonde hair probably would not be that successful, but I have got my wig on standby waiting.

I have had no sickness this week at all, taken my drugs religiously and not on any now unless start to feel sick ( which I havent), got some tablets on standby. Sure this won’t continue throughout the treatment, next one due on 29th Aug.

My relaxation (if you can call it that) is running around after a 3 year old and 9 month old!!! They show me no mercy.

Take care
Love

Hi,

Have had 3 ccles of FEC now with 3 more to go. Did get neutrapenic sepsis after first lot and had to go on an IV antibiotic drip in hospital for 4 days but am ok now. Hair has fallen out but still have the odd wispy bit. Have to say I am more concerned that I wasn’t able to tolerate 100% chemo dose so it was reduced to 80% the 2nd time and will stay at that level. As I’ve had a reoccurance and had a maligant supraclavicular lymph node grade 3 Im worried sick it will spread. All we can all do is say positive and not look too far ahead.

Its good to know you all understand

Bev
