Just started rads this week so today will be my 3rd session. I am having rads in the neck too because of lymph involvement. All the doctors have been telling me I won’t feel anything etc etc but I do feel something! It’s not painful but during the treatment there are x2 long blasts and during those I don’t feel good at all. I feel like a very strong headache is coming on, a kind of pressure feeling. Is it all in my mind or does this sound familar to anyone??
Also, my breasts, particularly round the nipple are sore inside already so I am concerned there are another x26 sessions to go. Has anyone else experienced this so early on?
I’ve not long finished 25 sessions of rads & felt absolutely nothing during treatment.
I would most definately mention what you’re experiencing to the girls prior to your next session. They might be able to shed some light on it & they’ll also be able to advise re the pain in your breast.
I did notice that my breast was warm after treatment - even very early on. There were also days when I had a bad headache and I think it may have been the tension from having to stay still with my arm behind me, but the rads staff told me to be sure to drink a lot of water during the day so maybe it dehydrates you too.
It is causing internal effects as that is the whole point of it and my nipple cracked and was weeping by the end. It took a couple of weeks to clear up afterwards as the new skin coming through was also damaged. Keep up with the aqueous cream and tell them if it isn’t enough because they can give you other things - I had intrasite gel.
Tell them about the headache too and anything else that worries you. They have seen it all before and can reassure you.
E xx
You should tell them about anything that worries you
I’m currently on rad 16 of 25, and starting to get pretty sore. During the actual treatment I don’t generally feel anything, except just occasionally I think I feel vibrations through my breast. Not sure if I’m imagining it or not.
I did find that in some ways the first week was the worst so far, because I was dreading it so much and didn’t even realise how stressed I had become about it. I was exhausted and had an afternoon nap every day after treatment. Now in week four, and not feeling the tiredness half so much.
I have just had no 7 today. I have not experienced the headache but my nipple is very tender already. It is quite sore when I apply the aqueous cream. Yesterday was the first of the all over rads - I had the booster ones first.
I am also already exteremly tired. I had a 9am appointment today and was home before 10am. I went straight back to bed for an hour and half.
Having read other people post I knew to expect both of these, but thought it would be towards the end, not so early on in the treatment.
hi just had rad session number 3 and exactly the same it’s not sore but there is pain. I have rather vague internal pains in all the bits under my rib cage for about an hour and my scar from my SNB nips all day since rads started on Tuesday. I’m taking the view that I just have to get on with it - slapping on the cream and hoping for the best !
I have had no 14 today - getting a lot of redness now and an ache in my upper chest which I have been reliably informed by my Radiographer is where the chest wall muscle starts to tighten up due to the Rads. I say reliably because she underwent mastectomy, chemo and rads not so long ago herself (finished treatment in Dec)and has reasurred me enormously about the Rads aspect. Any stabbing pains are likely to be where the nerve endings that were severed during surgery, also being irriated by the Rads also.
I too am feeling tired. Some days it is a little worse than others but I find a nap soon sorts it out. My nipple scar also looks to be ‘deepening’ so will keep slapping on the cream and hope it helps!!
hiya - just finished 4 so got 15 to go and my chest wall is aching and my SNB scar nips like a very very nippy thing - I too was told that it was the nerve endings - will probably just take paracetemol and be done with it !
I have a review session on Monday just before I go to start Hercepting (what a great bank holiday Monday I’m gonna have !! yippee :))and I will mention it. No redness just sore - I had rather hoped that this would not be the case so early on but …
