Well,
I actually went for my wig today and was very nervous thought it was going to be horrible. My chemo treatment starts on Tuesday. I went to Blackpool and was amazed at the reception I received ironically the only problem I had was with the hospital not sending the prescription through in time and at one point saying I wasn’t eligible! This was sorted out but could have done without the stress of it. Not sure why I cannot wait to wear the wig as I want to keep my hair! That says how delighted I am and although I say it myself it is quite sexy! So, I would happily recommend Yvonne Barlow at 171a Church Street ask for Donna she is wonderful. 01253 622270. Can I also mention that you are allowed another wig in 6 months on the NHS not everyone is aware of this. Mention Caz please if you go.
hi there,
I was the same as you, before i lost my hair i chose my wig in preparation and loved it, infact i got 2 wigs but was totally heartbroken when my hair came out, nothing prepares you for that, i tried to keep hold of mine for as long as possible but i was silly and it was such a relief when i had it cut off, now its been nearly a year that ive been wearing the wig, my hair is nearly long enough to wear without a wig but im quite vain and dont want people to see me with really short hair, but im hoping by xmas it will be long enough. anyway im rambling, the wig is brilliant, the best thing is that on a night out you will always have the best hair do and you will annoy the hell out of your friends because they would of spent hours on there hair and yours will look better, ha ha.
Well good luck and as soon as you see your hair coming out please get it chopped, unlike me i caused myself loads of stress.

Hi,
My hair started to come out last weekend, a few strands at a time at first then by the fist fall. Tonight when I washed it 90% of it came out, and I am now sitting here not feeling half as bad as I thought I would. I was absolutely dreading it going, it was making me feel quite sick at the thought of it, I did buy a gorgeous wig last weekend and I definatley think that made me feel a lot better, knowing how good the wig looked and I am quite looking foward to giving it a test drive this saturday at a family do, then at work on monday.
I totally agree with Tracey, I got my long hair cut short before my first chemo and it does make it easier to bear - it is still a bit of a shock, but nowhere near as awful as you think it will be and believe me, I am very vain.
Caz - hope your chemo goes well for you on tuesday - I have no. 2 tomorrow - just take it easy afterward and rest as much as you can.
Love and best wishes,
Tracy xxx
Hi all
I have lost most of my hair over the last week, I had chemo no. 2 last Tuesday, and hair clippered last Monday. Have not worn wig yet but fairly happy wearing bandannas.
I don’t think we can ever be prepared for the hair loss, but I find I have good confident times, and horrible insecure times!!!
Hoping for more of the confident times ahead.
Good luck
Thinking of you all

I am just comng up to my first chemo with short hair, and got my wig last week at Will’s Wigs in Bromsgrove. They were incredibly kind and helpful and set me up with a really fabulous wig that looks just like me. My sister said if she had not known, she would have thought it was my own hair. brilliant.

Hi Guys,
I am off for my NHS wig appointment today. Started Chemo on Monday. I have seen some fab wigs on e-bay to, and now Julie has said how good they are will be getting some!! I have also seem some bandannas with wig/hair pieces at the back which look good, mite try one of them. Like the primark t-shirt idea to, great tips!! I am really scared about all my hair going as did have long wavy hair, had it cut to shoulder length after my 1st op to make it more manageable. But didn’t like it, do know but its been two months, hoping to get a wig that is back to my old hair length. Have decided from everyone advice to get it chopped off once it starts going, seems the way forward.
Take care

Hi, I have also been a wig lady since 3 days - second treatment done, off with the hair.
I’ve found it extremely hard. I knew it would go, and I had a very good wig ready. But I am still reeling in the aftermath: I hate seeing my bald head, and I want to hide from the whole world, as I feel like everybody can guess it is a wig (of course, they can’t!).
I have also ordered wigs through ebay, they do look great - i’ll let you know how they are once they arrive… really looking forward to them.
Hi, Although I bought a wig last sunday from Suzi’s wigs in Lakeside (can highly recommend!) to match my recently disappeared brunette bob, I am definatley going to look on Vogue wigs on ebay and get a platinum blonde one - just for a change! Lots of the ladies here have recommended ebay, so will give them a go. I can also recommend buffwear.co.uk, they do some fantastic bandanas that are really versatile if you fancy a different look.
Love and best wishes,
Tracy xx

Hi Julie,
I am definatley going to get the blonde wig now - I have always fancied finding out what it is like to be blonde bombshell! My own hair is dark brown, so this is a good opportunity to try a few new looks. If I get chatted up by someone I don’t want to be chatted up by (although I should be grateful at 46!) I shall just whip it off and watch 'em disappear into the crowd.
All the best,

Hi all
Got a brilliant wig from “Wig bank” www.wigbank.com Agnes Lennox, she has been brilliant. Lovely blonde wig very similar to my normal hair for £20, a donated wig (which was obviously a lot more expensive originally), and is brilliant. Agnes is sending me a few more yo try on a sale or return basis. If I get chatted up in blond wig at 50 it will be a real boost in confidence, but I think I might take your option Tracy wip off the wig and watch them run!!!
Take good care

Hi Julie
I am waiting to start chemo and although not sure what will happen with my hair read with interest your reply about wigs on ebay. What is the name of the shop on ebay you used.
Lesley
You have just really made me laugh, Jools. Served that pair of cretins right!
A friends mum did that at a dinner party, some idiot was staring at her so she whipped her wig off and said ‘yes it is an f*****g wig’ I think it must have been a bit of a conversation stopper - and she certainly wasn’t the sort to hold back at the best of times.
Love, Tracy xxx
Hi tracey want an even bigger laugh i am not joking everything happens to me no joke ! Driving home from aberdeen one hot day on dual carriegeway opened my window (having a hot flush) and woosh out it went ,what an affront .Had to stop car it was my fav wig .See trying to retrieve thankfully it didnt blow onto middle of road but landed up at the side ,so no cars went over it ,but can you imagine i looked like a tomatoe ,thus with having no hair and my face puffy with steroids ,Hope you get a laugh from that .

Hi All
You have just made me laugh with your wig stories, soooooo funny, esp. Jools and the dual carriageway. I got a wig like Tracy1961, from Suzi Wigs in Lakeside and everyone thinks its fab, and say its better than my hair was … blimin cheek or what. Must have thought my hair was dank and yuk without telling me. I am/was a blonde bob, but my wig has no roots showing and is even lighter. I am absolutely terrified of it ever falling off, or my baby making a grab for it, but so far so good. I hate looking at myself in the mirror as nearly bald now, had shaved and the little tuffs that were left are going fast. Won’t even let hubby see me, sit with me pink hats on at night!!!
One good thing though, non of my daughters little monster friends have commented, so must look good!!!
Take care all and keep up the stories.
Love

Hi there!
Jools, I don’t know what I would have done if my wig had blown out of the car window on the dual carraigeway, probably retrieved it like you did - but knowing my luck it would have landed on the back of a passing trailer or something similar.
My lovely new wig is getting it’s first airing tonight, I am off to a 50th birthday do at a restaurant with my family so it will be interesting to see their reactions. I hope there is no flaming dishes involved, I will certainly have to stand well back!
Love to you all,
Tracy xxx
…Almost forgot, I meant to add for Lesley that two really good wig sites on ebay are Vogue wigs and Fumi wigs. Vogue wigs seem to supply the ones with the natural coloured parting and they are very reasonably priced, quite a few of the ladies on this site use them and I am planning to get a couple from them in the near future - although I am brunette I fancy a completely different look.
Hope this helps,
Love,

Just a tip for anyone shopping for wigs - if you have very, very fine hair like I do, go for a short wig. This is cos the short wigs sit closer to your scalp (as your own hair would), rather than standing slightly away from the scalp, which is more typical of longer, thicker hair.
I tried some bobs and I looked liked Barbara Windsor after a bad night! Now I have a really short wig which I love - I look as if I am fresh from the hairdresser, highlights and all. My wig was free (NHS) and excellent quality.
I am going with the wig for disguise as I’m not brave enough to get anything that looks remotely different from my normal self - not to kid my friends, more a case of shopping locally and not wanting to explain to every passing acquaintance that I’ve lost my hair.
