January 2019 Radiotherapy

I’m also under 50 and will be having 3 weeks of radiotherapy not 5. Maybe it depends on location and/or the individual treatment plan?

I’m 45 and getting 23 treatments so almost 5 weeks. They told me if you’re younger you are more likely to get more treatments but I guess it does depend on individual cases. I’ve had 5 so far and all good apart from very sensitive nipple and my wounds feel a bit hot later in the day after treatment but then it seems to settle down again. Hope you’re all getting on well.

I am having 20 including 5 which are called a boost as my margin was 0.5 mm. The boost starts today so it will be like the first one. Have you finished Jane today?
I have been told I have Osteopenia the stage before Osteoprosis. Will that be due to the chemo as my Mum doesn’t have it and she’s 86! I am 52.x

Yes am on calcium tablets Jane. Yes I can imagine you must be feeling fab about finishing rads. I can’t wait til Wed and am hoping to celebrate somehow maybe a nice meal out not sure yet.
At my review recently they said when I see the surgeon to check re my mammogram in Oct as you have to leave it a while after surgery before you have a mammogram. Xxxx

Fantastic news Jane ? hope you are celebrating tonight ?? xx

Hi all I finished my radiotherapy beginning of December, 15 treatments & an extra 8 boost,  23 treatments in total. I was recommended  a  baby moisturiser cream from a company called called  Childs Farm you can get it in boots and most big supermarkets. It’s very kind &  suitable for children with eczema and psoriasis.

I met some amazing people, truly inspiring, I suffered No side-effects from the radiotherapy only problem I am having is from the hormone tablets. Good luck ladies.

Hi everyone.

I have my booking appointment next Monday and hopefully will get date to start after that. Not sure how long I will have to wait?

Initially thought 15 sessions but as margins tight they are giving me an extra ‘boost’ week. So 20 in total.

Looks like I’m also going to go on the hormone tablets as ER+ so not looking forward to that either.

So all ahead of me. Thanks for all advice on creams, drinking water, walking, etc. All good to know.

I had a good day yesterday in that I didn’t have to wait the usual 30 minutes plus. Left work, shot across to Guys, had treatment and back in less than an hour. That’s how it should work.

I’ve got #10 of 19 today, 15 + 4 boosts, I’m 37. Think it all depends on individual diagnosis, recurrence risk, stage, grade etc. I’m starting to feel a bit tired now, but working full time and having a 2 year old so not sure I can blame the rads! Using my prescribed creams daily, but starting to go a bit pink and my nipple has gone a bit leathery!

@Nuala, I started tamoxifen a couple of months ago, after my op but before rads started. I have absolutely no side effects at all, I think you only ever hear the bad parts but many don’t have bad side effects so try to not to worry about it.

Hello everyone,
I’ve joined this thread today as I’ve been for my planning session and 1st of my hormone injection today.
Start Radiotherapy sessions on Monday next week and have 15 sessions.
Any tips are welcome and hope everyone is getting on ok ?

Thanks Helena that’s really useful to know ?
I’m lucky in that all my sessions are covered with someone taking me.
In quite a bit of pain from the hormone injection so right now thinking I won’t stand that for 10 years and maybe better opting for my ovaries removed ?
Always something to consider xxx

Get discharged tomorrow after last rads. Will join the Club Tropicana thread. Its been a long hard slog but I made it. Well done me! Has anyone whos finished had many se’s from rads.x

Hi I am 68 had 2 ops now waiting to start Radio therapy at Salford Royal live in Wigan anyone else on here from Wigan had or waiting for Radiotherapy?

Number one today…

Realised I now have absolutley no modesty left as I was chatting to the young male radiographer afterwards totally topless and didn’t notice!  Of course he would have been watching the whole thing anyway, but thats kind of different as I couldn’t see him!!

Yeah I had 2 blokes today too. First time its not been at least one woman. Mind you, I’m so used to getting my tits, or lack thereof on the left, out for anyone ot doesn’t bother me now. The itchy nose always seem to get as I’m holding the position bothers me more.

All treatment done and dusted. Celebrating with some Xmas party food! Will now join the Club Tropicana thread. Hope to see you on there Jane? How are you doing? x

Congrats to Linda & Kathy for getting to the finish line.
2/15 rad sessions down for me & got my first of 26 Avelumab treatment after rads tomorrow so bit apprehensive. As it’s a new trial it’s just fear of the unknown but I know I’ll be fine once it starts. Hopefully the side effects will be minimal as it’s a year long treatment.
Good luck for tomorrow if you’re having any treatment/tests/appointments.

Thanks Helena and Sam. xxx

hi, I’ve just joined this thread as was desperately seeking advice on side effects of radiotherapy. I have completed 8 sessions out of 15 in total but my skin is already sore and have been told it will get worse till it peaks well after treatment is finished! So I am dreading the next few weeks to be honest, especially after I have just recovered from chemo. I’ve been advised only to use QV cream on my skin, nothing else. Also to go braless and get as much air around the breast as is possible (or decent!). After reading your replies, I think I must drink more water. Any other advice very welcome indeed.

Hi,

First time I had no effects of radiotherapy bar very slight pinkness (I’ve had far worse sunburn). This time I’ve done 9 of 15 and I have nothing at all. I don’t go bralesss because I’m working full time and just popping out for treatment . Cream wise I used acqueous cream first time, this time I’m using some garner moistriker that my skin seems to like purely because I have loads in the house.
