Joint Aches on Tamoxifen

I was just wondering if anyone else has suffered joint pain on Tamoxifen. I have only been on it since Sept. I have spoke to my onco who has said its not a SE of tamoxifen. She has told me to have a two week break and see if I notice a difference! I have noticed a difference joints alot less painful. I am worried they think its all in the mind as she really didnt seem to think its connected to tamoxifen!

Hiya, long time no speak to!! How u doing? Your oncologist needs to read this forum as there is a current thread all about tamox causing joint and bone aches. It seems really common. Will try and bump it up for you.

Hiya Vickie Im fine finished rads and was hoping to get on with my life! But the joint pain is getting me down. I have been searching this evening as I thought I can’t be alone. If you could try bump it me that would be great. You must be near the end of rads by now??? Hope your keeping well.

Have bumped it, it’s called bone ache tamoxifen rather than joint ache.

Yes two more radiotherapy sessions to go. Breast znd nipple bit sore over last few days but nothing too bad.

Thanks Vickie just had a read. It seems I am not alone and that some oncs accept it as a SE. I will have to mention it at my next appointment. Glad you have managed rads with out too much discomfort. I am still a little red a week after last one and recon sore but I was warned about this so hoping things can only get better!
My onc also mentioned an injection as an alternative to Tamoxifen any body have any ideas what this might be? You would think I would have the hang of these appointments by now but I always come out with unanswered questions!

Hi,

I too have aching ankles and knees on tamoxifen. The first two months were fine but they changed the brand this time and it is really quite painful.

As yet, I don’t have any joint pains (been on tamox 4 months after they had to take me off arimidex). However, I am concerned to hear about the different brand problem. I know they do this with other drugs (ie give a cheaper alternative) and it aint always so good.

What brand of tamoxifen were you on and what have they changed it to??? It would be helpful to know in order to avoid this.

From previous experience, what you do, is tell your GP to specify in the prescription exactly what the pharmacist is to give you. That is, if GP states only tamox, pharm can give you whatever he/she likes (brandwise). If, in your case, a particular brand is better, this can be specified. I know this, I did it when I was on Distalgesic and they gave me Co-Proxamol. Oh, and before anyone comments, yes , I can still get this.

Hi Sarah,
Congrats on getting through all the treatment. Sorry to hear of the joint pains. I have only been on Tamoxifen form 10 days but my joints have hurt like heck the past few days. Don’t know if it’s related or not. Am taking diclofenac anti inflams to combat and having refelxology sessions which are helping quite a bit.
Hoe you get it sorted

Hi, Ask your Docs about Brufen Retard for aches…its only available on prescription and they tend not to prescribe it on the NHS as its expensive. So ask! Worked a treat on me!Its slow release so the pain doesn’t build up.
