July Zappers

Hunting the sheep was great fun! We found 12 of the 69! It’s a great way of seeing parts of the city we wouldn’t normally go to. Had a very nice lunch break, an ice cream by the harbour side and drink and a piece of cake in some gardens we never knew existed!! People are very good waiting in turn to take photos of the sheep and comparing notes about how many they’ve seen. It’s lovely to see people enjoying finding them and taking photos of them with their children. Do feel rather tired now though!
A new week ahead - hope it’s a good one for us all. xxx

Sounds great fun pinkbaglady. My boob and shoulder blade are definitely darker and my neck has gone all dark and speckled like big freckles crossed with sunburn. 2 to go!!!

Good luck to all starting rads this week! Had a lovely bike ride today - 43 miles so pleased I managed it! The sheep hunting sounds similar to what we have here - but we have dragons this year! My children are grown up and not interested so might have to do the trail myself lol! Goodnight - got an early start at work tomorrow!

Hi all, my first session is tomorrow morning - hope it all goes to plan, sorry to hear about your problems Maria. My tattoos are pin prick sized so hope they find them all ok! I can see them so hopefully they will be ok. They just look like someone has put a black biro on your skin - maybe I will get them made into flowers or something lol! Will let you ladies know how I get on. Feeling tired today but after my long bike ride and no sleep I’m not surprised, been to work today too so an early night in order for me. I have to be at hospital for 8.12am so hope parking won’t be an issue but my mum is taking me so she can drop me off if needs be! Good luck to you all for tomorrow xxx

Hey guys sounds like you’re having not too good a time if it. I have 5 permanent tattoos, each like a pinprick, really not noticable. Have my last rads tomorrow, may be 3 or 4 times they’ve inked the tattoos in with a marker pen. It depends on the radiologist. Honestly it’s a doddle, except for 45-60 mins travelling each way. I’m lucky with a private hospital, but most others have been able to get a free car park pass so please ask about this. Looking forward to the last session tomorrow!!;

Yes I got mine. We could start a new fashion trend. Mine is blue/white stripe. X

I didn’t have a gown.

Not given a gown - just have to use the lovely ones which are provided - like a huge flowery tent! I was given another appointment sheet, they have altered several of my appointments - slightly annoying! I had no problem parking yesterday as it was early, bit later today so might not be so easy. At my hospital you pay for three lots of car parking then after that it’s free. I may not have to pay if it’s under half an hour as first thirty minutes are free. Slept a little better last night but keep getting up in the night with hot flushes and needing to have a wee! Think it is the Tamoxifen as I never needed to get up in the night before - anyone else have this problem? Good luck with rads today xx

After a really restless night have decided to give in and get up. There’s only so many games you can play before you get fed up. Looking out the bedroom window it looks quite cloudy and overcast here, hope it’s gonna be a nice day. Good luck to all you lovely ladies having rads today. Looking forward to next Wednesday when I join you. XX

Hi July ladies

I’m starting 6th August,  left side rads, any advice re this breathing malarky? No one has mentioned it to me yet!

Sheena x

Hi ladies, I’ve just had no 8 of 15, right side so no breath holding. Interestingg reading how hospitals differ! I’m at Preston who give you a gown to take home & bring in each day & it gets thrown away at the end. They give you a free car park pass for the duration & free drinks from the lovely WRVS-run coffee bar. Worst thing for me has been the waiting time, which averages about 45mins-1hour and the travelling, so makes it a long time for a short zapping. However, each visit is one step nearer finishing! They don’t mind about deodorant - one of the radiographers said that they’d done research and found that it made no difference. Just very slightly pink around my scar and slightly itchy tonight, but slapping on aqueous cream & aloe vera like it’s going out of fashion!  I actually found the most difficult thing when I started was the mental effects, probably with everything starting up again after a break. I feel ok this week now I’ve got used to it. Hope all you lovely ladies are coping ok with the treatment and side effects and good luck to those of you about to start.

First week of rads done - three and a half weeks to go. Was weird going on a Saturday as not many staff around or patients! Feeling a little bit tender today, maybe I will try aloe Vera as well as my aqueous cream. I’m still feeling really tired not sure if it’s the tamoxifen or rads! Have been busy baking cakes today as I’m holding a strawberry tea for Breast Cancer care tomorrow - just praying for good weather! Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone!

Hello ladies I am due to start rads in 3/4 weeks time at Preston,my tumour was on left side.I asked Radiologist about effect in heart/breath holding. She said that they don’t do that at my hospital. She said research re damage to heart was done a few years ago and techniques have become a lot more sophisticated so that they position really carefully and avoid exposing the heart as much as possible.Does seem odd that some hospitals do this and others do not or is it connected to position size of your tumour?
as much as possie

Hi all hope you all had a great weekend. Mine was a bit emotional as I held an afternoon tea for breast cancer care and think I’ve raised around £900!!! I was so overwhelmed by it the tears came out! I’ve not cried once since my dx in May - had to come out sometime! Feeling a bit rough today - not sure if I have a water infection as been getting pain down below - hope it’s nothing more serious - may be a trip to the gp tomorrow. Rads still going ok - getting a little sore now so have got my soft sports bras back on! Hope your rads are going well xx

Well done Sharnie! That’s brilliant! Hope you feel better soon.
It’s 15 sleeps now Whitejasmin!
Hope the rads are going well for everyone. Good luck for when you start tomorrow Whitejasmin.

Hi ladies. Down in Cornwall on holiday, got WiFi for the first time since Friday!! Finished rads about 10 days ago. Collarbone is bright red like a burn about 3 inches long, my neck looks like sunburn and is peeling. My boob is all patchy brown, pink and white and very itchy underneath and in between the boobs.

Covering up with scarves and although sunny its not too hot for covering up x

Feeling better today and more positive - it’s August and the end of treatment is getting nearer :smileyhappy: Have a lunchtime appointment today which is a bit of a pain - kind of messes the day up! I will be glad when I don’t have Saturday appointments - for some reason I miss Wednesday’s and go Saturdays - which means I don’t get a two day break :smileysad: The sun is shining today as well - maybe summer has returned! Hope to do a bit of cycling this weekend. Have a great weekend everyone! X

Hi everyone

I am lost on this site and leaving posts all over the place… probably in the wrong section!

Anyway I am at Preston hospital for 15 rads. Had six already and happy to have 2 days off! It is painless but as someone said, very sci-fi and takes a lot of getting used to before you can relax. I have had no problems up to now. I am tired but I was before I started! lol

Preston ahve been great with free parking permits, drinks etc. I have had no delays although I know someone has. They give you a gown to use for the duration also. I can’t believe how damn busy the place is… 8 macchines 50+ people a day on each one. I’ts an eye opener isn’t it.

Wishing you all well

Love Lorna x

Just back from Cornwall. Breast and neck very itchy but we survived! Put factor 50 on plus a scarf and floppy hat! What has surprised me is bright red burn along the collarbone and how brown and splodgy my back and between/under boob!! Finished rads 2 weeks ago tomorrow so hopefully that’s it!

Hope everyone is doing well.
Hope the holiday was good riversidedawn. 5 sleeps till I go to stay with my friend in France now!
I had a ‘little’ day out yesterday. I treated a friend who has been a huge support to me ever since my diagnosis last November. We left my house at 5am yesterday morning and arrived back at 12.30am this morning! We had a very nice lunch in Guernsey!! Such fun! Little bit tired today!!
Have a good weekend everyone.
