June 2023 Chemo Starters

Hi everyone - Just emerging from EC 3 and bit of a break before final one on 16th November.

Meeting surgeon again. Genetic testing was negative and just waiting for MRI biopsy result this week. Looking like I’ll have a lumpectomy on 2 Jan.

No idea what to expect but right now just looking to end of chemo and getting my energy spoonfuls back again.

Thanks so much for the bra information and @kateevenly discount. That is so kind and huge help. I feel my naughty boob has changed shape and size so did you all get measured?

Xxx

Kate was brilliant Rachel the first size I ordered wasn’t right so I sent back and got right size, Kate went above and beyond in her assistance and the product is extremely comfortable to wear :two_hearts::two_hearts::sparkles::sparkles:Shi xx

So pleased the genetics was negative, that must be such a high relief. You also have a plan and a date for your lumpectomy.

Still need to finish your chemotherapy but your are doing it. Well done you.

Putting myself through it today watching Sarah Beeny v Cancer! After watching Rhod Gilbert SU2C pain in the neck at Velindre my cancer centre. It’s totally heartbreaking to watch but it’s also reassuring to know we are not alone.:smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Hi Rachel, you are welcome to order a few different sizes from our website evenlybreasts.com and then just return any which aren’t the perfect fit. Alternatively if you’re in London (I noticed you said you are close to Future Dreams House) then I would highly recommend going to one of the fitting days with The Bra Sisters. They have one coming up in Harley St on 17th Nov and others in December. They have the full Evenly range so they can fit you in your perfect size straight away (although you won’t be able to use the discount code with them I’m afraid) and they can also get you fitted for a new bra if you would like one at the same time. The Bra Sisters are run by two women who both have had Breast Cancer so they are incredibly lovely, supportive and sympathetic. Hope that helps x Bra Fitting – The Bra Sisters

Thanks Kate for posting this  very useful information  :two_hearts::two_hearts::sparkles::sparkles:Shi xx

I had a sore throat with normal temperature on Monday so called Helpline and GP. Saw GP 11:40 and temp had gone up to 37.9 in both ears, told I needed to call helpline back straightaway. Throat was a bit red but she was more concerned about temperature and did blood test for neutropenia as risk of Sepsis is high. Went to Velindre to assesment ward for several hours, more bloods from PICC and other arm to rule out infection in PICC. Obs a bit elevated but temp had gone down to nearer normal, no paracetamol so not sure why. Told to strip to TShirt only. It was so noisy, no privacy for anyone talk8ng to nurse or doctor. Heard all about constipation as they’d not be drinking! Then a doctor discussing Do Not Resuscitate to an elderly lady and her daughter as she was being admitted. I had had a terrible nights sleep and just wanted to sleep but I couldn’t. Home just after 7 with antibiotics as I had a UTI, some bloods had come back ok, but others sent o another hospital may not be back until later or next day.

Due chemotherapy today and assumed all ok as I hadn’t had a call. 40 minutes before the phone rang from a nurse on the day unit to ask if I knew I had been cancelled this week, said no and we still needed to go to Centre to collect owing antibiotics from Monday. She suggested I speak to GP to sort rather than travel. She said she’d ask the Team to call and explain. 10 minutes later the phone rang to say my SATs were not normal and that as I had been admitted on Monday I should delay. No apology for not notifying me! Have clinic Tuesday so will, take this up with them.

I’m disappointed but realised it’s a positive thing, I’ll have a week with less side effects, the antibiotics have kicked in and feeling better. With a weekly treatment programme it will be nice to have more than 2 good days. Radiotherapy was planned 2 1/2 weeks after chemo to get it in before Christmas holidays but that will have to be put back now as I won’t have much time to recover. I was worried about side effects of radiotherapy so close after chemo and just before Christmas. I did ask the Team person to advise radiotherapy of the delay in my treatment.

Hope everyone else is doing ok. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Hope everything is going ok for those still on chemo. Sounds like youre having a tough time @naughty_boob do rest up before your next session.

Its my birthday today. I’m 35. Such a strange year the diagnosis and treatment, but I’m very grateful to have got through it and be here to celebrate (though gently as im still fatigued from chemo myself).

Best of luck to everyone, and I hope we all go from strength to strength!

Hello everyone!

A happy belated birthday to @Jess_1 @Cali :boom:
There were a few of you having last chemo too and I hope that went well.
@naughty_boob sorry about the troubles and delays for your treatment.
@rachel60 I did an online nutrition session with future dreams. It was good.

I had my surgery on Wednesday - so glad this phase is over too! I had a tag guided therapeutic mammoplasty (WLE) and 2 nodes removed. Results due 23rd (a bit apprehensive).

Having not had any op previously or anaesthetic was just pleased I woke up! It was day surgery and I was allowed out few hours later.

It looks good they have done a great job. Obviously bruised, swollen and battered with dissolvable sutures and clear glue over the sites. They are all strapped in nice and tight.

Time to recover. Not missing the chemo or antibodies. My sister is coming to stay for a time from abroad and looking forward to

All keep strong, smiling and warm. We can do this! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:xx

Hi @rachel60 feeling better today. It’s the first Saturday I’ve had since starting chemotherapy that I could do something. Managed a 50 minutes walk, did get a bit tired a few times, especially on the hill on the way home and then rested a bit at home. Later in the afternoon I went shopping with my husband. So nice to have a day when my husband is not working and we can do something together.

Antibiotics have upset my stomach and make me feel nauseous but it’s nothing compared to normal side effects. Hopefully bloods will all ok next week and I can finished my last 4 chemos. :crossed_fingers:t2:

Not long to your last EC, next week?

So pleased you are up and about. Take it easy and you’ll tick those last ones off the list. My final EC is on Thursday. Not sure whether I’ll scream, laugh, cry, run out of the hospital!! Op scheduled for 2nd January and will find out on 24th November what my surgeon has in mind as all tests back now. I think a lumpectomy. Stay well and we’ll be cheering you on. Xxx

Hello all!! Missed you all!!! Well my final chemotherapy is this Friday. I can’t believe it! I so hope I won’t have to have radiotherapy. I will have to have tamoxifen for about 5/10 years though. So I got vaginal thrush, slight itching on my hand and - wait for it - heart palpitations one night only with Docetaxel. It may have been a panic attack but it hasn’t come back since and that was two weeks ago when i was in bed and very tired. I honestly thought i wouldn’t take up! I have kept about 65% of my hair - (yes and I DID have the red devil first) but wore the cold cap throughout. It has thinned greatly though and I have slight bald patches which at the moment, as it is cold in the U.K. I can hide perfectly with my beret. I have had my flu vaccination and covid booster ( timed it well after and well before my next chemo cycle, and so far all good. I have been quite up and down and irritable I must say. I have put on some kilos and everyone tells me how well I look. Honestly, do they think we are going to look on deaths door? I hope you are doing ok. I’ve had my mastectomy and axillary clearance before my chemo so really hope this will be the end of major treatment for me. I found the lump in january so that will be a whole year out of my life - about the same as having a baby but we don’t get the baby after!!! Do write back and tell me how you are doing.
