Just a bit of reassurance please

Hi, My daughter-in-law came back from hospital today only to be told that her aspiration results have come back with abnormal cells, but not cancer!!. The doctor said that although he had checked “the bricks of the house”, he wanted to check the whole house by removing the lump. Naturally, this is very worrying for all of us, particularly because she has to wait until the 15th of January for the operation. If anyone has had a similar experience, please can you let me know. Or even if you know what “abnormal cells” are an indication of, I would be really grateful.

Thanks loads,

Kerrie

This is a real cliff hanger and even worse at this time of year when everyone is celebrating. I had the same happen to me in April and had to wait until the surgeon came back from holiday. He removed the lump and unfortunately it was a recurrence.
Abnormal cells are atypical cells but not suspicious. As your daughter-in-law’s doctor says the cells are abnormal but not cancer so it would seem that he is just being extra cautious which must be a good thing despite the horrible waiting time.
Good Luck and do please let me know how things go.

I don’t know why doctors talk in euphemisms, I think it makes people more nervous. you have to translate it into plain english. I remember one doctor saying he needed a sample of the red stuff, Couldn’t work out what it was, turned out to be blood. Your daughter in law has a lump in her breast, not a house so why not say so?
