Just diagnosed age 27

Hi as you can see from above I’m 27 and have just been diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer and am scheduled for a lumpectomy on Wednesday. Obviously I am terrified and have loads of questions going round in my head. Would love to hear from anyone in a similar situation

Hi Butterfly,
So terribly sorry to hear your news, you are so young to have to deal with this… I was diagnosed last month, also stage 1 so perhaps I can offer a little reassurance. I have had my lumpectomy (25 aug) and pretty much healed now, and it was all relatively painless. I’m sure will be well looked after by the Breast Clinic Team. Do ring your BCN if you have any worries at all they are very helpful. Also if its out of hours there’s a helpline on here you can use 08088006000. Of course there’s this wonderful forum which has helped me enormously. If you would like to send me a private message that is fine too.
Sending you a big warm Cyberhug to help you along the way.
Luv Jude xx

Hi Butterfly - not another young 'un. It’s awful.
the lumpectomy itself wasn’t too bad at all, the SLNB bit was uncomfortable and had to sleep propped up for about 10 days after surgery. But it’s not that bad honestly and they do give you loads of great painkillers to deal with it.

All the best xxx

Hello Butterfly27,

So sorry you’ve had to join us - but you’ve found a really supportive place that I have found a godsend since being diagnosed.

I’m 33 and there are quite a few young 'uns on here. I’ve also been on a BCC Young Women’s forum which was really useful and covered lots of relevant topics, but it was also really good to meet girls in a similar situation - much less isolating.

Well done for catching yours so early. Unfortunately it’s very common for young women to find theirs much later as we’re not regularly screened. Do you know your treatment plan after your lumpectomy?

If you have lots of questions going round in your head do ask us, your breast care nurse or use the helpline which is really good - they’re really helpful and will take their time to answer any questions and explain how things work and wont mind if you have a cry down the phone.

Big hugs,

xx

Hi Butterfly,
I am now 35 and was diagnosed last year, had my WLE on 14th September 2010. So just about to celebrate being cancer free for 1 year. (I considered the chemo and rads to just be an insurance against it coming back)

There are lots of people on here who can offer really good advice, I only wish I had joined the forum sooner. No question is silly, and you will get better answers on here than any amount of googling. So feel free to fire away.

Fingers crossed that all goes well on Wednesday, I recommend that you do the exercises they give you as soon as you are able, and keep doing them to avoid stiffening up.

Take care
Jen

Hi honey - I’m another young one - diagnosed at 30. I had chemo, lumpectomy and axillary dissection, and radiotherapy. Just finished a few weeks ago. I was stage 2/3.

All the treatment is do-able really, but it is emotionally very hard sometimes. I do go to my local cancer support group, for example, but everyone else is SO much older than I am.

We are all here for you any time you need us.

Hi butterfly, you’re not alone, there’s lots of support here. There’s also a thread for women in their twenties you may have seen? I’ll find it and bump it up the forum a bit for you as you may find it helpful reading. Good luck for Wednesday.

Howdy Butterfly, I really hope it goes well for Wednesday. I’m 36yrs old and am stage 2 and about to have my Lumpectomy tomorrow (tuesday 13th) So we are both in the same boat. I can’t offer you any advice (yet) but I am more than willing to offer any support I can along with all these other caring and wonderful people on this site.

It’s scary and quite daunting but you’ll be fine as will I.

hi Butterfly, hope your Op went well yesterday. I had mine on Tuesday and am doing well i think. I’m just a bit sore and uncomfortable at the moment. If you have any questions or queeries please feel free to ask and i’ll try and answer them. If you have the support of family and friends then take full advantage of this. Keep mobile and keep positive. x

Hiya thank you to everyone for the support, I’m really sorry I didn’t get bak to you but I wasn’t allowed on the Internet! Asked husband to ban me so I didn’t read horror stories!! Anyways had the lumpectomy last week and still really sore by guess that’s to be expected. Had some fantastic news yesterday they got all the cancer out and the lymph node was normal still have to find out if I’ll need chemo or radiotherapy but right now I don’t care… It’s all gone!! Feel so blessed and lucky as I know what the outcome couldve been. Know I’m not out of it yet but just knowing it’s all gone makes me feel amazing xx
