Just diagnosed but still waiting for some answers

Hi, it’s my first time on here and my first time acknowledging I have breast cancer.  Was at hospital this morning and now have it confirmed I have breast cancer in two areas of my breast.  One of my lymph nodes also affected.  Hospital are waiting on two more tests on HER2 and Oestrogen receptor said before they’ll oc firm my treatment.  I’ve also to get CT scan to check it hasn’t spread.  Despite the doctor telling me that 96% of breast cancers don’t spread, this is the one part of my appointment today I’m fixated on.  I truly hope it hasn’t spread…  a daft thing to say I guess in light of the long road ahead of me.  If anyone has any advice/inspiration or whatever to offer I’d love to know.  Love to you all x

Hi Jano

Welcome to the forum. All the lovely ladies on here will try and give advice and support as much as possible.

Getting the results is possibly the worse time. Once you have all the information and then the treatment plan, things will get easier.

I was diagnosed last year. Had lumpectomy, chemo, rads and now on hormone therapy. After a series of tests… mammogram and ultrasounds, have now had the all clear.

It is a scary time. But you will get through it and come out the other side.

As you go through treatment, join the various threads on here, so you can chat to others going through the same as you.

Sending a hug xx

Welcome to the forum Jan, the stats are in your favour like the doctor said ,it is actually very unusual for breast cancer to have spread when first diagnosed but it’s a fear we all have and very difficult to remain calm and positive when you have just had such bad news.Lots of advice and support here from people who understand .Jill.

Hi Jano

Sorry you have had this diagnosis.  Getting the results is very hard - well done for acknowledging you have breast cancer.  It can be all too easy to shy away and try to bury your head in the sand but that just means you keep getting the same shock when you do think about it again.  I found the first few days after diagnosis I was shying away from the truth and in the end I found that talking it through helped me to start to make sense of it.

Everyone of us worry about it spreading and I totally understand that myself, having done the same.   But I have been told lots of positive things by the team looking after me and I have to hang on to that - hopefully you can do the same.  Everyone tells me that great progress has been made in treating breast cancer and this diagnosis is not the same as it might have been years ago.

I hope you have plenty of love and support around you for when you are feeling low.  This forum is an excellent place to visit to get support from others in the same boat and lots of wonderful advice from those who are further down the road.

Very best wishes to you x

Hi Jan,

Just wanted to say I’m thinking of you and understand what you’re going through. I had my op just under two weeks ago and got my results yesterday. I wasn’t expected to have anything in my lymph nodes, but 3 out of 10 are affected and I will now need a body and bone scan before my treatment is decided. Although the consultant was very reassuring, I’m panicking about having the scans and that my diagnosis will be worse. As you say the percentage of the cancer having spread is very low, but I’m really worrying about it too xx
