Just Diagnosed Hello

I’m a 34 year old and was diagnosed on 1st May. It was a complete shock and have been in a bit of a daze since. Got the results yesterday and it is invasive ductal cancer (the most common type which reassured me a bit) but is grade 3 (aggressive) which is very scary but is apparently common because of my age that everything moves fast cancer wise. It has spread but only to one lymph node.

This is the worst thing I’ve ever had to deal with. I have got a 2 1/2 year old and we have been trying for a baby for the last year and I’ve had 2 miscarriages and that’s all I’ve been thinking about really.

I’m having a lumpectomy on Thursday to remove 2 lumps - one in my breast and one from my lymph node and then will have chemo which to be honest I feel very worried about as to what it is going to do to me.

Anyway this is just to say hello to everyone and I’m sure I’m going to get to know you better over the next few months. Reading some of the stories on this website has made me feel much more positive about things, it is just incredibly scary.

So sorry you have had to join us. I was dx in January and have found this site a wonderful place to come to find people who understand and people who have been there.

It will take time for you to come to terms with what is happening but I promise you - you will get through it. Try to take one day at a time and take a great deal of care of yourself.

If you have any questions then the girls you find here will all rally round with answers or suggestions. They will also be a sympathetic ear when you need one.

Thinking of you. I am 33 and mum of two. I have been using this site since I found a lump last week. I am awaiting my appointment at the breast clinic.
The women that use this site and reply to your post are wonderful and I have found them a great support, particuarly when not able to sleep.
I have been posting on Have I got breast cancer, but will look in to see how you are doing.

The line is open Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm, Saturdays 9am - 2pm

Hi,I had a grade 3 with one node involved 3 &1/2 yrs ago. At the time I never thought I’d live to see this day, but I have and I’m well and happy - and full of life!.. and I’m sure you will be too! Everyone’s experience of chemo is different. I didn’t have a problem with mine ,just put my head down and got on with it!Had 4x FEC,4x Taxol.Did get tired towards the end though but it didnt effect my lifestyle overmuch! You are still young enough to have another baby after your treatment ends.It’s usually the 40 somethings who go straight on the change- I did at 45!You’ll meet lots of friends on here who’ll help you through the bad times…and share the good tjmes with you too.Good luck, chin up…and away you go!

Thinking of you Judet1 - so very sorry to hear your news and hoping and praying that all goes well. Remember when I was first diagnosed 17 years ago and the enormity of it all but if it is any reassurance my cancer returned last month which shows that there is an excellent remission period and I fully intend to go for another. Good Luck and do keep us posted on this forum. I send you a big hug.

Thanks for all your replies, it does help to know that you are not alone. I will keep you all posted on my progress as I’m sure I will use this website a lot as so far it has been brilliant.

I am posting an identical message for you as I did for Motherk.

Please don’t be afraid to explore your options.

If my experience was anything to go by, it is really frightening when you are first dx. I felt as if I was being pushed along really fast, too quickly to stop and think.

My first advice to you would be that if you have any questions for your medical team, write them down because everything is such a blur, it is hard to remember anything. Take a pad with you so you can write down the answers because it is difficult to absorb all the information.
I found that I could hear the answers but I was unable to process them at the time they were given.

Also don’t be afraid to research, it MAY give you more options than you have dared yourself to consider, it MAY NOT but it is definitely worth checking. Pubmed is a great place to start, another great place is cancerbackup.

Take a look at these links, which MAY or MAY NOT make any difference to you at all but worth a look and MAY be worth discussing with your surgeon.
