Hello to you all. Just found this website. I had a mastectomy last Friday and have my follow up next Monday. I had intermediate DCIS with 10 cm spread. As I understand it I may be lucky and the cancer may have been contained and require no further treatment. Or it could have become invasive through the lymph nodes ( I had sentinel nodes surgery) and/or it could have become invasive into the chest area. It has not really been explained what the possible further treatments are. Does anyone here have experience of this or further knowledge. I’d be very grateful for any replies.
Hi Maida
At your follow-up appointment they will discuss with you the results of the pathology report which would have examined the tissue removed during your op. This will confirm the stage and grade of your cancer and whether it has spread to your lumph nodes. This will guide your team as to what the next steps in your treatment plan will be. Its worth taking someone with you or asking the surgeon to write down the salient points for you as it is difficult to remember all the details.
Hope it goes well, take care.
Mary
