just learned bc had 24 years ago was tnbc

dx breast cancer 24 years ago had one of the first lumpectomies and radiation.in those days you were almost microwaved. Had few problems since more with after effects of radiation but last year skin above breast changed seen onc dx with tumour in lung, removed may 2011. not lung cancer nor obvious bc but definately cancer so onc had pathology test 1988 tumour and it came back triple negative (this test was not available in 1988).Lung and breast cancer oncs have decided that nodule removed may 2011 must be a secondary from 1988 bc but as I read on this forum and they agree it is hardly heard of tnbc to reappear after such a long time. In Sept 2011 had another scan which showed another nodule given date for drastic chemo and told no cure. Onc did more tests and I asked if I could have another scan before starting chemo in Dec and scan shows second nodule has now disappeared so didn’t go ahead with chemo, which should make me happy but I’m too scared. having another scan in May and only then will I feel more confident

Hi dpblob

Sorry to hear about your worries. It’s the uncertainty that gets to us amongst other things, isn’t it? Your story reminds me of my auntie in Germany, she had BC back in the 80’ties she was mid fourty at the time. She had a lumpectomy and chemo as two of her 18 lymph nodes were affected. She has been fine ever since, well till last year, they discovered a cancerous lymph node near her kidney and now she has lung mets. Despite various MRI scans they haven’t found a primary. They somehow think it has not to do with the BC she had more than 20 years ago, but because they haven’t found a primary, who knows? She didn’t have Tamoxifen, so I suppose she was TN too.

I hope your scan will be alright in may.

Love,

Christine xx
