Hi tendamand, just wanted to let you know my experience ,found a thickening in my breast ,saw my gp and was referred to nhs but every day was filling me with dread so i decided i would pay privately and had appt on 12th march
Saw my consultant had needle biopsy, mammogram and ultrasound within an hr i had my diagnosis. The consultant said he needed to do a core biopsy but as it wouldnt change my diagnosis he would but me back to the nhs for that and i am now booked for surgery this thurs
If you are really finding it difficult to wait you could ring the consultants secretary back and say you want to go private for the tests just for peace of mind. 8 out of 10 breast lumps are benign but i understand the dread of waiting All the best with whatever you decide to do xxx caz
Well, I’ve done some homework, and unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be a quicker route via the NHS in Wales, which is really cruddy for you.
The only quicker way would be for your GP to re refer you under the two week rules, which do apply in Wales but only if the clinician suspects cancer. So the good news is that neither your GP or the consultant you saw DO suspect cancer - which is cold comfort I know. The only other option is to fork out for at least ultrasound ( about £120) which might put your mind at a little ease. Fibroadenomas show up quite well on US. Try and keep your chin up flower, we are here for you during the wait.
