just wondered...

i have just been diagnosed with bone cancer after having got to grips with the fact i have breast cancer and trying to stay positive to get this kick in the teeth…i was having fec for 3 and to go onto tax for 3 but they kept me on fec had number 5 today and 6 will be december…masectomy in jan and then start a new chemo for bones…alls a bit fuzzy in me head at the moment only got the news today…:frowning:
my couple of questions are…
does all chemo n drugs make ya hair fall out…am i gonna be bald for the rest of me days? quite used to taking 5 mins to get ready to go out but would like to have to buy a brush again…x
and what is the time line like…years? year?
can i go on to live as normal just on drugs?
annnnd if im on these drugs forever can i still enjoy a glass of wine(bit selfish but after today i could do with a large wine)
sorry if these questions are insignificant but im doing baby steps…as i have scared the beejeebies out of meself googling…
thanx for reading…
tracy…xx

Just posted on your other thread. Don’t want you to think I’m stalking you

My hair came out during my 3 FEC and I shaved it off. It has started to come back on TAX which has surprised me but is currently just a bit of baby fluff. Not all chemos make your hair fall out.

What is the chemo that you are getting for bones? I’m wondering if you might mean Zometa which is a Bisphosphonate. This isn’t chemo but it works by protecting your bones. You can read about it here:

macmillan.org.uk/Cancerinformation/Cancertreatment/Treatmenttypes/Supportivetherapies/Bisphosphonates/Zoledronicacid.aspx

It is usually given by IV infusion every 4 weeks. You should also be given Calcium tablets.

Time line - Don’t think anyone can tell you, but I do know of women who are 10 years out with bone mets. Breast cancer is such an individual disease which is why stats are sometimes a bit of a stab in the dark. Takes each day as it comes. We could all be hit by the proverbial bus at anytime!

Wine - I would check with your onc. I personally have chosen not to drink but that’s because as well as the spinal mets, I also have them in my lung and liver and I figure my liver needs all the help it can get right now. I know that many women do drink in moderation so at the end of the day, I think it’s a personal choice and a case of ‘whatever gets you through’

PS: No such thing as insignificant or daft questions. The best thing you can do for yourself is to ask questions, be informed, take charge of your own care and fight your corner
