Kadcyla 2026 Group

@claremeakin82 of course it is. x

@kcim I was literally told this morning that I will be having Kadcyla and it was so out of the blue, I know exactly what you mean a real shock! and upset to hear that we will be sitting in that bloody chemo chair for another 42 weeks! and more bloody needles!

@scubacat @fairycake You are the exact same as me! Had EC and Docetaxel with 4 rounds of Phesgo and was expecting 14 more of those but told today it would be Kadcyla.

My hair is growing the same as @fairycake and @dilly very bare on the top of my head, but fuller on the back and sides!

Welcome aboard @tessie86! There are some great, positive posts here by people on Kadcyla ahead of us, or even finished!

I think it’s the shock of how long the treatment will be, coupled with the shock of finding out the previous chemo wasn’t completely successful. I know I was devastated that I had residual cancer, even though it had been removed by the surgery. I also found out in my pathology report that in one lymph node the cancer had broken through and spread into the surrounding fatty tissue. Again, I was devastated and scared by that.

But we can get through this! X

@dilly We do get through this! I think because I got the call last week saying that I had responded to chemo really well and that when they removed the lump, there was only 7mm of cancerous cells compared to it being 22mm when I started chemo and there was nothing in my Lymph nodes so was on a bit of a high and then to be told today that actually 7mm wasn’t good really as meant I hadn’t had full results was just such a fall back to reality of cancer.

But reading these posts and how amazing it is that we can even have Kadcyla really helps. I was told that Phesgo was the miracle drug so was upset to be taken off it, but sounds like Kadycyla is also another miracle drug

@tessie86 I’m so sorry to read this. I know what you mean about it feeling like another 42 weeks, I really do. I feel for you. We will travel the path together and hold each other up. I’m expecting the same on Friday, and because mine is ā€˜in the skin’ I don’t think it matters about any margins or lymph action, I am definitely expecting to get it. I’ve been told to expect it.

We can do this my love. xxx

I hadn’t done the maths yet - 42 weeks somehow seems longer than 14 rounds, or 10 months!

Can anyone who is ahead of me on Kadcyla tell me if we have any scans half way like we did with the previous chemo, please?

@dilly I got told every 3 months I would have a cardiac scan, is that what you mean?

@dilly hope you are doing ok after your first Kadcyla? I have just had my 8th Kadcyla and the only scan I’ve had so far is heart scan.

Ah yes @tessie86 @anb1 I’d forgotten the heart monitoring. So no CT scan? I feel like I want one every year to check no spread lol!

@anb1 the first 5 days were tough, but I’m hoping it was just a shock to my system. After that I’ve been OK, apart from the ongoing side effects from my previous chemo and surgery. Thanks for thinking of me x

@dilly @tessie86 no they haven’t mentioned ct scans just yearly mammograms. Although we would worry before having yearly ct scan at least we would know we was still ok.

I think they’d only CT scan you again if anything new showed on mammogram or if you started presenting with symptoms of spread. Otherwise just the 3 monthly echos for heart and annual mammograms

I watched a brief video by Dr Liz O’Riordan who said that yearly full body scans can do more harm than good so they’re not usually recommended

@dilly No routine scans where I had my treatment, it was only the heart monitoring done every three months as standard. My oncologist said they would only order a scan if there is some area of concern. My liver enzymes have been elevated since finishing Kadcyla, so I’ve been for a few MRI and CT scans which so far have been unremarkable.

Morning, how many rounds of radiotherapy did you all end up having? Origional it was looking like 1 week but with how things keep changing, I think I’ll mentally prepare myself for 3 weeks.

I’ve just started 15 today, running concurrent with the Kadcyla. So next Friday it’s Kadcyla at 0900 and Radiotherapy at 1230

@tessie86 Hi I had 15 radiotherapy treatments then started the Kadcyla (just how my oncologist does it) x

I’m also on 15 (starting on 20th) - think it depends on size and grade of tumour generally. Definitely worth mentally preparing yourself for 15 - my surgical team kept saying it would only be 5 which I thought unlikely, and lo and behold once I spoke to radiotherapist it was 15 :woman_facepalming:t2:

How did your first day go? Xx

It was absolutely fine! Even my surgery arm behaved herself and no pain, hurrah! Thank you for asking x
