On Monday I have an appointment for above treatment on my arm. I’ve just thought, once tape applied do I still wear my compression sleeve.
Take care everyone.

Hi lynni
Just trying to think back to mine a few years ago now…I think was told to wear the sleeve as well, altho’ it didn’t seem logical to me, bearing in mind the principle on which the tape is supposed to work! Not sure what the current thinking is on this.

Hi Lynni,
I was told to wear sleeve as well - but found that the sleeve tended to pull the tape off a bit when I was getting the sleeve on.

Hi Lynni,
Just to say hope it goes well with the tape. It really worked for me for 8 months and I’m only having to have a break now as my skin has become sensitive to it - it’s massage and physio to keep it down at the mo. Hope to be able to have it again in a few months though.
'Fraid I can’t help with the sleeve query as as my real problem area is neck/shoulder. From my understanding of how it works, I agree with Bahons2 and can’t see the logic in wearing the sleeve as well but hey, I’m not a medical person ! If I remember, I’ll ask my lymph nurse about it on Weds and report back and that’ll be another opinion on current thinking. I do know that the hotter you get, the more the tape sticks and becomes more difficult to take off !!

Thanks everyone, I can’t see the logic in wearing sleeve as well either. Liz, will be interested in your feedback.
My appointment is in Physio dept at hospital but not sure if treatment is being done or its just a consultation, letter not very explanatory.
Take care everyone xxx
Lynni,
My taping has always been done at the physio dept apart from once when she was away and I saw the lymph nurse who is based at the hospice and is the expert (although the physio is brill I have to say and seems to have as much knowledge). The lymph nurse does the massage as the physio doesn’t do it routinely so is out of practice but she still sees me for manipulation of my shoulder that has very limited movement… keeps me busy visiting both !!!

PS Can’t promise to remember to ask about the sleeve and tape on Weds - chemo brain is a major factor !!
Hi all,
Shock, horror, I remembered to ask about taping and sleeve at same time (it was on my way out…). Apparently you can have both at the same time and it works - even the lymph nurse doesn’t know why and said it didn’t seem logical but she wouldn’t question it if it works. She has had several ladies using both. You do apparently need a protector between the tape and the sleeve so the tape isn’t pulled off when the sleeve is removed. She showed me one and it looks a bit like those flower bags you get at supermarkets in shape or a sun brolly cover.
The MLD is keeping my swelling down at the mo and the physio is helping get the movement back in the shoulder so it looks like the balance between the two is right - long may it last!!
Liz
That’s interesting, Liz
Do you wear the protector underneath the sleeve all the time, or is only for putting on and taking off the sleeve?
I’ve never been offered one, so that’s another reason why it wouldn’t stay put on my arm!

Hi,
Assume you wear it as well (although it all sounds very hot to me - hormone therapy has altered my body temperature out of all recognition!) as otherwise when the sleeve is taken off I would assume it may bring the tape with it…but not sure with fortunately not having one - better add, yet just in case !
Hi everyone, had taping done on Monday afternoon, took sleeve off in evening and some of it was already peeling off. Physio used kinesio tex. Went back Wednesday, and she tried again with kinesio tex gold, and guess what that started peeling off too. I’m being really careful when putting my sleeve on/off, is this a common problem with the tape.
Lynni,
Think the stickability of the tape can also be influenced by how oily your skin is - mine is more of a dry skin and it is sensitive (always has been) Don’t put cream on the skin on the day you are having the tape applied either as it won’t stick properly. Apologies if this has been said to you and is obvious !!
Thinking about the protective sleeve thing again whilst having a hot flush at 2am like you do, I think you may put it on over the tape, then put the sleeve on and somehow pull the protector out but it sounds like a bit of a fag. Will ask this Weds if I remember.
Liz
Hi Lynni, Lizcat
The peeling you describe is exactly what was happening to me,too In some places the tape only stayed in position for a matter of minutes - disheartening and useless. The only thing that helped was making very wide strips (ie only cutting the tape in half lengthways, no more) and also using the super-duper coloured waterproof stuff.
I think it’s much more effective on breasts, trunks and backs where it doesn’t get the constant pressure and chafeing associated with a sleeve.
I think the protector described is normally used for putting sleeves on - think I was shown one once - does it look vaguely like a Tesco’s carrier bag, something like that?

Hi Lizcat, Bahons"
I was wondering if it had anything to with my skin, but mine isn’t particularly oily. I haven’t put any cream on my arm for a while, so its not that, but thanks anyway for advice.
I’m going back on 30th March, she’s given me loads of tape, so hopefully it’ll last until then: I’m re-applying the tape every 2 days.
Take care xxx
Well, went to physio appointment re kinesio taping on 1st March and looks like its helped abit. Going to continue until May when my 6 month appointment is due and assess again.
Also spoke to physio about my swollen leg and foot (result of DVT dx Oct last year) and she is going to measure me for a compression stocking for leg and foot, great a matching pair! Well, its been two years since had a matching pair! As you can imagine thrilled with this bit of news, just in time for the summer, timed that one well.
I’m pretty p****d off.
Lynni,
Sorry to hear about the legs now - cr*p timing like you said.
Update on my situation - a combination of sld and major manipulation from physio appears to be keeping it under control but don’t know what will happen when that ends as it will do in due course. Offer of a sleeve was there but as it’s not really a big problem in my arm and would only push it up to my neck/shoulder/back area, I declined and the nurse agreed with that. I may be able to go back to taping in due course but too early at the mo.
Had a panic about poss skin mets where tape had been and skin was getting worse but as soon as I had appointment to see surgeon, it started getting better !!! He was very sweet though and understood my worry as I have a v high reoccurrence risk and have already had rads to that area. All ok for now, fingers crossed for June bone scan and off on hols in a couple of weeks - yeah !!
Hi Liz
Glad the sld etc is working and sorry to hear about worry over skin mets too. What a worry.
Where you off too for your hols?
Lynni,
It’s off to Mallorca - with the lovely weather here today, I’ve been getting a bit of a starter tan on my face and arms !!! The bone scan is just before a hols to same place in June as well - no pain at the mo (surgeon yesterday seemed surprised but not too worried and will see me in 6 months) so fingers crossed bisphosphonates are working. Now I’m retired, I’m making the most of it !! x
Good for you. Enjoy your hols.
Take care
