kinesio taping

Hi, Has anyone had kinesio taping and if so was it successful. I have fibrosis in my hand and will be having the tape applied on Friday. I have been wearing a sleeve and glove for a few weeks now and although there is a small reduction overall my lower arm and hand has fibrosis. Any comments would be appreciated. Lesley

Hi,

Different area for me but it was brilliant at getting swelling down. Having a break at mo as skin developed sensitivity to it after 7 months. Will go back to it though. Can’t recommend enough !

Good luck with yours

Hi loopyjack

I don’t often post these days but thought I’d just reply about kinesio taping. I’ve been using it on my hand for about 3 years now and I swear by it! It’s fantastic. I struggled with a glove and sleeve for years (nice blue fingers), and had intensive MLD which didn’t work for me at all.

I tape Monday to Friday and have the weekend off, after doing it for so long I can do it with my eyes closed and it’s so easy to do.

Thoroughly recommended!

Helen

Hi Madrid, That sounds very positive. I’ve been wearing a sample patch for 24hours to check i’m not allergic to the tape and go in the morning to the clinic. Have you had fibrosis in your hand? that is what concerns me as the glove does not make any difference and like you say 'blue fingers’its also very difficult to handle small things like cash. Another question do you use tape underneath a glove?
Thanks Lesley

Sorry to but in, but I’ve recently tried taping and having problems with tape as it won’t stay put. The odd time it has it seems to work. Has anyone any suggestions.

Thanks

Sorry to but in, too, but have you asked them to cut the tape into wider strips, Lynni? I know this nay cost more, but I found the really narrow ones lifted off in no time!

Also, the (unfortunately more expensive) often coloured waterproof tape sticks like s**t to a blanket (I think they use it more for children with lymphoedema). If you can afford it, you can order it yourself over the internet and perhaps take it with you to your next taping session.

Hi all

Loopyjack, I do wear the tape under a glove when I fly, but it works so well on its own that I don’t need a glove every day.

As for the tape staying put - I used to use what my nurse gave me until I realised I could get it cheaper on the net. However the company I used, kinesiotaping.com, suddenly changed their tape last year and it was USELESS, just wouldn’t stay on. Despite me ringing them twice and insisting the tape had changed (I DO use it every day!) they said it was the same.

When I saw my nurse at the beginning of the year she gave me some tape and lo and behold it was the same as before and sticks wonderfully. I now order my tape from a company called Vivomed and you want KINESIOLOGY tape (K-Active) rather than Kinesio tape. If you google it will come up!

Hope that helps!

Helen

Hi, Thanks for the suppliers address I have just ordered a 5metre roll and think I am going to need it. I had the tape applied yesterday by my lymphodema nurse whom seemed very unsure and had to follow photographic instructions and when she tried to put my glove on the edges were curling. As we left the building my OH and myself both commented on the length of time this was going to hold and yes one strip was off by tea time. After cutting the holes for my fingers she only left approx one centimetre to stick to the palm of my hand and we feel to give grip it ought be a bit bigger.
I am to remove the tape after 5 days and go back for further taping next Friday but I do not think it will last anything like that. Do you apply it more than once over the 5 days?
On saying all that I did not wear my glove yesterday evening when I went out for a meal and I felt so much better and I don’t know whether its wishful thinking but my hand looks a lot flatter so I will be giving it a go. I think my OH and myself will be having a go at redoing it when the Tape arrives. My hand had gone very firm so anything is worth a go.
Any comments regarding application and length of time worn would be appreciated.
Thanks
Lesley

Hi Lesley

I’m sure it’s not wishful thinking - I really do think it works wonderfully and my hand is so much flatter when I wear it. I really notice the difference when I have the ‘weekend off’! Especially in this warm weather my hand is very uncomfortable.

I swim twice a week and although the tape is supposed to be waterproof it feels horrible when it gets wet, so I re-apply then, so am using three lots of tape a week generally. I put a latex glove on in the shower in the morning! I think it probably would last 5 days but it gets really grubby! When I wear it under my glove to fly it really does curl up - much better without.

This is how I cut it (you’ll see what I mean when the tape comes) - a strip of 3 squares for my index finger and middle finger, a strip of 2 and a half squares for ring and little finger and a strip of 2 squares for my thumb. I fold over half a square to make the ‘finger holes’, so it probably is only about a centimetre on the palm of my hand.

Best of luck!

Helen

Thanks very much for that Helen. I feel very positive about this after what you have said plus my hand is definitely flatter this morning and I’m not having to wear my glove in this warm weather.
