Hello ladies, I was started on Arimidex just under a week ago after a WLE for a grade 2 (mixed)and sentinel node biopsy which was clear. Still have rads to come not sure yet how long a course that will be. However, yesterday I suddenly experienced a really sharp pain in the left side of my knee cap, this happened a couple of times when I attempted to walk. I hadn’t done anything unusual so imagine this is down to the Arimidex. I actually couldnt walk at all yesterday without acute pain, although it seems a little easier today. Bit of a bummer as it was my birthday and we had planned a short outing to the shops (would have been my first!) but flying to the moon seemed a more achievible prospect!
Has anyone else experienced this? if so did it improve over time and is there anything I can take to help etc etc?? No other real pain as such just a twinge in my feet and lower back, though have headaches and slight nausea.
Hi: I’ve been on Arimidex since end of Jan and I would thought it a little early to get side effects -although we are all different (as they keep telling us!). I have problems with my finger joints - nearly spilled a whole glass of good wine the other evening - and have hot flushes but nothing in the major joints. My Onc told me that mostly we get pain in the smaller joints first.
Hi, I am on Arimadex and experience joint pain, but it is now tolerable. (3rd week). I was initially on Femara bur after eight days I developed severe joint pain and numbness down my left arm (my BC is the right side) also swelling in my legs and ankles. I was swallowing pain killers like there was no tomorrow. I spoke to my BC nurse who contacted the oncologist who changed me over to the Arimidex which as I have said is a lot better. It may be that you need to change to another AI. If it keeps as severe talk to your BC nurse or oncologist.
THE JOYS!!! Hope you get fixed out, its all a bit of a nightmare at times.
Thanks ladies, have spoken to bcn this morning and she too thought it was a bit early but not impossible that I should get this sort of pain. She is phoning me back again on Monday to see how it is and in the meantime is having a word with my consultant who she said may take me off it. I would imagine I will be given another one to try. I start questioning whether its me and I somehow twisted my knee without realising, but I did nothing unusual it just started suddenly. She also advised me to stop taking it if pain worsens.
Hi again, don’t think it is just you. I was in tears with the Femara and with the pain, swelling and numbness I ended up at A&E convinced I had a DVT or something nasty. Really felt a bit of an idiot afterwards but definately not funny at the time.
Irene
I have been having terribe aches and pains on arimadex, but I have found that taking glucosamine has really helped. Other then that seem to be ok. I’m also on zoladex but now the oncologist is talking about putting me on it every 3 months. But she said its not really licensed for women 3 months. Can anyone give me some advise.
Hi everyone,I have just been taking arimidex for three weeks and the joint problems seem really bad, never had anything wrong with my bones before, three weeks ago I was playing squash and badminton, now i’m hobbling around like I’m eighty.I get sudden spasms in one knee and my back .I can’t say I fancy my chances of completing four years of this stuff if the side effects are this bad
Does anyone know if the side effects get more or less over time?
