know how you feel

know how you feel have just come back from Onc, who feels that arimidix is all I need for now and to give it another 6 weeks. pain in my arm went very quickly is that due to my dairy free diet or arimidix. Onc said not sure what the best thing to do as it was only regional but may try radiotherapy later if arimidix doesn’t shrink tumour completely. does not want o give me chemo. said it was difficult to know what to do. I feel i’m in a lottery I just may be lucky or not ,feeling very lost no support offered just go away and take the arimidix come back in 6 weeks. No more ct scan for another 6 months but have asked and been given another ultra sound in the next 6 weeks to see if tumour is responding. Thought I would be examined, but saw a registra instead and onc came in later. No smiles felt I was wasting her time with my questions. Haven’t seen community support nurse who said she would see me three weeks ago, no contact and feeling really low especially about biker

For Mollie Hi mollie

It sounds like you are feeling particularly low at the moment maybe it would help to talk to some one about how you are feeling. Please feel free to contact our free phone helpline on 0808 800 6000 where you can talk about both emotional and technical issues to someone who has experience of breast cancer.

The helpline is available Monday to Friday 9am-5pm and Saturday 9am-2pm.

Kind regards

Mollie,

I agree that there feels like a lot less support on your second or subsequent diagnosis. It’s so demoralising that we should have to hassle our oncs to get things done when we’ve already had to endure so much, only to find out that the cancer is back, in whatever form.

But if you can channel the negative emotions you’re feeling into a bit of healthy anger and stroppiness, and get yourself motivated, there is still plenty of support out there. Call your bc nurse, ask about counselling, speak to someone via the Peer Support service… It all helps get back the confidence we need to carry on the fight. No matter what the oncs may say today, we can still win this…

Good luck and let me know how you get on with the Arimidex - I’m now on Day 4!

mollie ask your GP to get you a Macmillan Nurse- you are entitled to one but it’s not broadcast.
You will find MN great for support and info but be careful about relying on her for diagnostic advice- for this go back to Brest Care Nurse/Surgeon/onc-via secretary for appt pronto. MNs great for all other help plus you get a hotline to phone if worried.
Best wishes, dilly
