Kylie and wonderful Care!!
Kylie and wonderful Care!! Thought Kylie looked great with her hair growing and wish her well, lets hope we dont get the usual pathetic stories of how she is cured.
However i cudnt help but think how much ‘easier’ it is to have make-overs when you like and prob servants to wait on you your own leadin expert on hand etc etc.
i bet she hasn’t seen a different oncologist on her last 3 visits, the one today looked no more than a kid and couldn’t even work out when my next appt was to write blood forms, greatttttttttttttt!!!
he’s arranging this dreaded bone scan for me lets hope he gets that right.
Just needed to sound off, what a moaner i am becoming.
Ruth
Actually… …I agree, i’m glad kylie is doing well etc.,
but sometimes it annoys me how we have celeb’s stories thrust at us saying how wonderful they look now, how brave they are, what an ordeal it’s been for them etc.,
i know it helps to push forward the message of breast awareness.
BUT, DO YOU KNOW, WE ARE ALL BRAVE, ITS AN ORDEAL FOR ALL OF US, AND WE ALL DO LOOK WONDERFUL, [EVEN THOUGH WE MIGHT NOT FEEL IT]
WE ARE ALL VERY SPECIAL WOMEN AND MEN!!!
difference being as ruth said we don’t have the luxuries that celeb’s have,
I wouldn’t wish this disease on my worst enemy!!
hope Kylie, all celeb’s and NON CELEB’S continue to do well
karen
gives wrong impression I agree with Karen it,s nice to see Kylie doing well but it gives people the wrong idea to treatments and how they think we should act when on treatment. I was diagnosed 1 week before Kylie and I remember people saying when I started Chemo “it’s not that bad Kylie is having it for a month and she’s not been sick and looks well”.
The paper said she was brave the other day for going out with short hair , but we all have to do this and a lot of the time work as well!!
She does highlight breast cancer .
I never saw myself as brave I just had no choice but to get on with it as the rest of you didn’t !!
Sue
Wrong Impressions I couldn’t agree more. As someone who was very ill on chemo, I was hospitalised twice and ended up on 15 GCSF injections per chemo cycle to try and keep me out of hospital, I was astounded to see someone say in the livechat room that chemo was a “breeze”.
With fellow sufferers making such blase statements what hope is there for us?
vodka sue and RMW26 Ta for everyones postings hey sue love the name haha, its great on here to have people who live in the horrid world of BC, but who else understands us hey???
My name should be wino ruth i am being bloomin stupid having a glass of wine on chemo day too.
RMW26- chemo a breeze blimey blimey blimey, no way.
Unfortunately people were lovely and said this CMF was going to be easlier but i HATE IT the regime and tabs.
Today i thought i resembled the model head i have to put my wig on we have the same colour (white) same style (baldy) same eyes
(shut most of the time).
Shes got a nice shaped face though but she has pouty kissy lips mine are just dry and kissin whats that???
Take Care kids

hi it’s vodkasue Hi liverbird
Or do I call you wino ruth !!
Never too stupid t have a drink !! You have a need to feel normal whilst on chemo .
How far you on treatment?
Vodkasue
treatment Hi
i had 1st CMF cycle yesterday well the second injection day 8 just downed my 8thdays C tabs 6 days to go.
I dont feel too bad its this darn back hip pain and the thought of the scan results.
Ruthx
Like RMW Rita My chemo went similar way to hers and it does upset me when people say chemo is a doddle, a breeze etc without pointing out that for many people this is not the case. Chemo can be very dangerous and it certainly for many of us is Hell on earth. We want to be there for everybody else, we want to tell the truth, but sometimes we hold back for fear of scaring people when they may be one of the luckIER ones.
Well, chemo brain here!!! Can;t remember the point I was going to make and can’t see the whole thread to remind me. Sorry, just ignore me - having a doo dah day!

Oh, yes, Kylie. Ruth, the other problem is that ther is DEFINITELY a North and South divide. I probably saw the same registrar you saw this last time, but know she will have changed again next time. She was a child in woman’s clothing and sat for twenty minutes reading my file before she spoke - for that I was actually grateful cos normally they start off saying ‘Now what is happening to you?’ Er, well, I’m in the aftermath of cancer .

treatment Hi Ruth
I had 4 lots of Epi and 4 lots of cmf i was told the cmf would be easier but i found it harder. I finished treatment in Dec 05 then went onto have radio.
Looking back now and it will be a year since i was diagnosed on the 26th this month it did fly by, whilst on treatment days were long and hard. But we get up everyday, put on a smile and meet another day.
I scared the neighbours when we moved in at Xmas, I was trying to clean the front window and feeling crap, had a cold and just had my 7th cmf, all these people kept staring at me as they walked by, after about 10mins my fella shouted and i look round at him and he burst out laughing , I was bold & shiny , with tissue stuck up both nostrils so i didn’t have to keep wiping my nose and my hickman tubes stuck out of my t shirt , Did i care ? nope!!
When do you get results?
Hi I agree that it’s very irritating that celebs are held up as examples to us all, when they have the finest treatment that money can buy and can just concentrate on getting better, unlike those ordinary folk who have to struggle to work to pay the bills or fight for benefits.
However it’s a sobering thought that sometimes even the most expensive treatments don’t work, as Caron Keating’s case proved,
kylie
good for her that shes doing well…however i have a question
why hasnt she got fat like i have on chemo ?
i think most of us put weight on dont we.
kim x
the media and the person Some celebs feed the media nonsense when they’re ill as well as when they’re fit. Other times media just makes stuff up to sell papers.
I think Kylie Minogue’s agents have done a good job in dispelling some of the stories which have appeared since she got cancer…for example countering stories about her using unproven alternative treatments, and correcting misconceptions about her being ‘clear’.
I wasn’t much interested in Minogue before she got cancer but I think she and her publicists have done a pretty good job with the media over this. It can’t be easy having cancer and being in the public eye. No not more difficult than for the rest of us but differently hard.
And I think she looks great with short hair …maybe it will counter some of the prejudice about short hair and women.
Jane
she does look gorgeous yeah i agree she does look gorgeous as i said maybe i am jealous
hehe.
How the heck has she got such fantastic teeth mine are hideous brown and discoloured i dont know if its mouth wash or the chemo.
I had them all descaled and cleaned pre-chemo so dont know whats goen wrong with them. Maybe i should seek out Kylies dentist but could i afford Him??
Hey Homer ya in Wolverhampton my father in law lives in Walsall often go the shops in Wolverhampton when we visit.
Ruth
I think she looks really great! I know she obvouisly has stylists etc but even so good for her. I wish I could have all that but it still dosen’t get away from the fact she has still gone thro the same as us and has come out the other side.
Lisa
… …Proof, in a way, that this wretched disease, hits anyone at any time regardless of status.
i too was not particullarly a kylie fan, in the musical tense, but admire her putting the media right when mis-quoting about herself, and her courage in looking to the future ie., fronting at glastonbury next year,
and having to go through the same as all of us., treatment wise, and feeling c**p just like us!
i just felt it was important for us to remember everyone of us is
special and brave.
hope everyone continues to do well
karen
Not everyone puts weight on Kim I lost some 2 stone when on FEC chemotherapy for bc - existed for some 4 months on hospital prescribed fruit juice that had all the nutrients you need to live. I have not really recovered in the 3 years since I had chemo, and am some 110 lbs today. My gastro is very concerned, but no matter what I eat I cannot put weight on. Okay, I have Crohn’s, which was perhaps the over-riding factor, but I was on daily steroids (decadron) for the whole time I was on chemo. some 6 months. You would have thought the daily steroids would have made me put on weight, as they did when I first got Crohn’s and went from 5 stones to 10 stones in 6 weeks. Just shows we don’t really know how chemo reacts in everyone. As I have found, every case of bc is different, and it is only coming onto this site that we find out how complex this bc disease is. By the way, I don’t have anorexia or bulimia, just Crohn’s., and dreadful diarrhea even though I inject myself weekly with the chemo drug methotrexate.
I just wish I knew someone else who has Crohn’s and bc to talk to. Is there ayone out there with both thsese diseases?
Liz.
lIZ, There was someone on the old threads had this. I think it was Liz (Drury) so maybe if you contact the mediators they can find her threads to help you.
Ruth, another reason Kylie may not have put weight on is if she did not take the steroids. I was half way through chemo before meeting someone who told me in America (I know she isn’t) they don’t usually give steroids with the treatment - don’t know if true - but this person hadn’t had them and she was slim and gorgeous despite being bald.
Also, my teeth which had always been my pride and joy went brown and still are and are also now completely uneven!!! Pig sick.

not I I lost weight when first diagnosed and kept the weight off all through chemo…and had to start wearing smaller size clothes.
But it all piled back on after finishing treatment and starting tamoxifen. Then after 2.5 years I switched to aromasin and found that I was constanly hungry.Hello bigger size clothes again.
However…I have now managed to lose just over a stone and a half in the past few months…I have joined a health club and started to become more active. Now weigh less than when first dx.Back to size 10 - 12 clothes.
I am still constantly hungry though…
good article There’s a really good piece in the Observer today called ‘The Real Roots of Kylie’s crop’ By Stella Duffy, a novelist who has also had breast cancer. Great insights on hair, cancer, illness etc.
These thoughts appelaed to me:
“Like Kylie and so many post chemo women , I had a touch of the Joan of Arcs. If our witness culture laps up a good death after a ‘brave’ fight, it approves even more of the ‘survivor’–older, wiser, scarred but strong”
and:
“Being ill is hard work in a world that wants us always young and fit. Those of us who are, or have been, sick remind others of the inevitability of death. Its no wonder the tabloids are falling over themselves to stress how greats Kylie looks. Its Easter, our culture adores a resurrection. And good on her. The princess does look great, but there’s probably more going on in her world than merely looking good, and it’s to be hoped the tabloids let her grow into her new life, now she is no longer a mortality virgin.”
