lancaster royal infirmary

Hi,

Is anyone having treatment at Macmillan Oncology Unit at Lancaster Royal infirmary?

Would like to know about your impressions

Many Thanks

Hi Jameva

I have not been treated there, however I did work at the RLI as nurse for over20 odd years before moving down south 4 years ago, I know some of the staff there and it was a really lovely place then. Who is your onc?

I know much has changed since I was there but from what i believe it still lovely, I will ask some of my friends that are still there what it is like now.

I am coming up to Lancaster for a week in July, I love the area and still miss it, but thats what love does to you, LOL met my hubby and moved to essex, but still a lancashire lass at heart really,

Let me know if there is anything I can do

Hi Linda

Thanks for your reply, Dr eaton has been my oncologist for the past three years, the staff are great there and now i am considering reconstruction under Dr Pashwarmer (Spelling?), although my original surgeon was Mr Peel, who was fantastic, but i dont think hes there anymore.

I dont know anyone up here that has been diagnosed and i feel quite isolated, it doesnt help that myself and my partner have no family up here and as we have six kids dont get much of a chance to socialise, oh well!!

Hope all is well with you

Tina

Hi Tina

Hi Galen,

Thanks for your reply, I agree that it does need abit of an uplift, how do you find Dr Eaton? When I first went I dont think he really knew what to do with me as regards to chemo and drugs as I was pregnant and I dont think he had had another patients who had been pregnant, guess I was a bit of a guinea pig, are u having treatment at the moment?

Tina

When we lived in the area, my son made several visits to A&E at RLI so I know the building well! Is the car parking there still dire?!

Irene

Hi Tina
Dr Eaton is really pleasent but everytime i have seen him in clinic i usually have a 2 hour wait , then i see him for 5 mins whilst he shuffles my papers aroud in my file and doesnt tell me anything i dont already know, this just amuses me now !! i was diagnosed last june with grade 3 IDC with at least 2 lymph nodes affected, i had 8 sessions of chemotherapy , my lump measured 2.5cm , i was on the tact 2 trial and had a great result from chemo, i had a WLE and my lymph nodes removed at kendal under mr peel at the end of november, i had 20 sessions of radiotherapy at preston throughout january, i am also on herceptin as i am HER2+ i have this every 3 weeks at oncologhy , i have had 3 and another 15 to go ! i am doing ok apart from lymphoedema in my breast which is irritating i am having treatment at the hospice, i feel like a lot of my treatment is behind me and i can see the sun shining over that very big hill i seem to have climbed !! i am 37 with 2 children aged 8 and 4 , how are you getting on with treatment ?

Hi Irene,

Yes the car park there is still horrendous, never a free parking space, where are you living now?

Hi Galen,

Im lucky if i ever get to see Dr Eaton, its usually one to the students. I was diagnosed in May 05 with Gade 3 IDC, when I was 5 weeks pregnant, i had a mastectomy and 12 lymph nodes removed the following week, showed there was actually 3 tumours and 3 nodes involved, then went on to have 5 FEC before the birth of the son, then 15 sessions of radiotherapy at preston when he was 3 weeks old, then on to zolodex and tamoxifen for five years, unfortanately in Aug 06 was diagnosed with regional reccurrence in 3 lymph nodes in the neck and clavicle, so had 6 Taxotere and 15 sessions radiotherapy again, now on zolodex and femera, so far so good, seen Dr Eaton a few weeks ago and he seemed quite surprised that i was doing ok which freaked me out abit!!!
I am 36 years old and have 6 sons (no daughters hence 6 sons) aged 2, 3, 7, 9, 11, 13, wouldnt have it any other way, they make me more determined.
Well of to town now, my son was 7 on wednesday and wants to go spend his money

Talk to you soon

Hi

I’m being treated at RLI and Mr Parmeshwar is my surgeon - he did my WLE/SNB for Grade 2 10mm IDC at Kendal 3 weeks ago. He warned me that because of the location of the tumor (right lower inner quadrant) that there would be quite a bit of deformity afterwards but in fact he’s done a brilliant job cosmetically (as well as getting clear margins!). Will find out Monday whether I’ll be having just rads or chemo/rads as hormone receptor results inconclusive from core biopsy so have done the test again this week on tissue from lumpectomy, so can’t comment yet on the onc unit.

Yes, parking is still dire. If you can’t get a space on the car park and you end up parking on the road, watch out for the traffic warden on his scooter - he’s red hot at giving out parking tickets!

Hi Claire,

Hope your results on monday will be as good as they possibly can be.
I like Mr Parmeshwar and feel comfortable with him although have not had any surgery by him yet, he said he would gladly do the reconstruction using my back muscle but I am trying to persuade him to do the tram flap as I have plenty to spare after having 6 children, but he is a bit comprehensive about using my tummy muscle as i am only 36, i did go for a meeting with a plastic surgeon but as she yawned into my face the whole time and basically did not seem to care one way or the other, i decided against having her preforming the operation.
Hope you are recovering from your operation and good luck for monday.
