Hi everyone,
Seems that I might not be the only one who feels like this. I am due to have an LD flap (plus implants) Recon on Friday. I came to the decision based on best cosmetic appearance and whilst I was aware of the risks, only listened to the fact that the muscles tend to compensate. Now I have delved more into this I am really worried about the decision I have made and I have no idea how to make the decision.
I had not known until reading today that the LD flap can cause a shallowing of the back as well as a scar? Have many ladies experienced this?
What have your experiences been of recovery from the ld flap?
Should I just go for implants alone and avoid this future worry if I have no way of knowing if I am going to suffer these complications?

I had an LD flap last year and I’m due to have another one next week on the other side.
I am very pleased at the result. One year on I don’t have any real problems. I know that an LD flap with an implant, gives a better cosmetic result than an implant alone.
The only problem I did have was a seroma (a build up of fluid) on my back where they took the fat and muscle. It had to be drained numerous times and even now 1 year on there is still some remaining fluid. I hoping that I will get the same result on the other side.
Best of luck with your op.
Cat
Hello Holloway, I had this op with implant done 22 years ago and it still looks good. I remember that I had the op in June and I returned to work in the October, but a physically demanding job, although my friends at work would not let me do any heavy work for a while. I hope your op turns out for you as well as it has done for me. Good luck, whatever you decide to do. Oh and like Cat I would not hesitate to have it done on the other side if I had to. Take care, Val
Hi Holloway,
I hasd this op last year. I have no shallowing of the back (is this more likely to happen if you have an LD flap without implant, when they would need to take fat as well as muscle to provide bulk?) I have a desk job and I had six weeks off work. I was extremely tired for the first four of those six weeks.
Hi, had the LD flap without implant February 2010, there is a slight shallowing noticible but apart from a stubborn seroma I had no problems and my mobility is fine. It looks and feels very natural now I have the nipple recon and tattooing done. I am having a lipofill procedure done to address the volume and to match the other side. Good Luck. x
