LD Flap

Hi Girls,
Well it’s nearly time for my surgery, my pre assessment tomorrow and I go in on Sunday for the op on Monday morning. I can’t tell you how frightened I am, I know I am looking forward to the outcome but worried about what may go wrong and what it’s like after the op. My husband and my sons’ don’t want me to go through it after going through cancer, but I cannot wait for a cleavage. Tell me girls is it worth it, I have been reading about the op and really worried. I am having a ld flap op with a expander followed months later by another op to put the implant in. I am no spring chicken late 50’s but just want to feel like a woman again. But very scared. Migsy

Hi Migsy

I can’t say that no recon operation ever goes wrong - but it is a small percentage. There are a few horror stories on here - but you don’t hear from the vast majority of us where it’s all gone swimmingly.

I had an mx and immediate LD flap recon last year and I don’t regret it. The op went fine, I had no pain, just a bit of discomfort after wards - didn’t need any morphine, just anti-inflamatories and paracetamol. I was up and about within a day or two and all the drains were out after a week. You will feel a bit weak and wobbly for a while - make your boys change their own sheets, etc, but I was driving and back at work six weeks later.

Of course you want to feel like a woman again. I went through chemo last summer wearing low cut t-shirts and with a very natural cleavage. In fact, I think I’ve probably got a better cosmetic result than some women who’ve had extensive WLEs.

Yes, I’ve also got a scar on my back, but that’s mainly hidden by my bra strap. I’ve got full movement in my arm and happily horse ride and garden just as I did before.

Good luck and I hope it all goes well.

Hi Migsy, I bet your frightened but I bet it will all be worth it,I going to see my con in May to arrange to have LD Flap ,so I will be looking on her to see how it all goes for you ,good luck and will be thinking of you x

Hi Migsy, just to echo what DJ007 has said… very similar experience at a very similar time and my new breast is fabulous.

Best bra for psot surgery is Triumph Triactive (not the extreme one) with bra strap extenders til the swelling goes down. Loose front fastening tops and PJs. And definitely get your slaves to work for the first few weeks when stretching/reaching up or down is out.

I live alone but with a little help from friends was fine - and you will be too.

Hope all goes well and you are as pleased as I am when you are a year on.

Thank you girls for your replies and tips, this has put my mind at rest a little bit, I will keep you all informed how I get on. My preassessment is tomorrow, but I have had a cold so I hope they don’t delay it due to this as I have syched myself up for this now. Thanks girls and I will keep you posted, tob21 I will keep you posted. Migsy

Thanks Migsy ,hope all goes well x

Hi, i had ld flap with expanders this time last year,i can honestly say it was fine no real pain and so pleased i had it done,i remember being very scared but it really is ok xxxxxx

Hi migsy
I go in for diep flap in the morning. Wishing you all the best with your op. can.t wait to see my results although I am a little scared!

Jenny

Good luck, hope it all goes well xxx

Hi Migsy, just wondering how you are and did you have the op after ? , not seen you on here lately, hope it all went well xx

HI Migsy

Hope you’re okay after your op.
Sorry I didn’t get this to you in time before your op but I would have said ‘go for it!’.
I had LD recon last October without implants.
It was definitly worth it and can barely remember the discomfort.
I am now awaiting fat transference ops to ‘bulge’ out the new breast.
As I didn’t have implants, still no cleavage but that will come with the later procedures.
After the first 5 days you will really pick up.
Take care of yourself.

Hi Girls,

Migsy here, well I went through the op, three weeks into my recovery and you were all right, the amazing thing was when I looked down after my surgery I had a little boob which was absolutely brilliant. The hospital, surgeons, nurses where absolutely lovely and when coming out of my op it was far better than when I had the mx. Anyway it took a while for me to look at my new boob, but now i’m putting plenty of cream on the scare as advised and they are healing up lovely, I am back at the hospital this Friday to have my first saline implant, they put 200 mls in during my op, so they are going to put another 200mls in, I am not looking forward to that, my new boob at present is a lot smaller and higher up, but I don’t care the final outcome will be great, I can’t believe how worried I was, but worth it. I will keep you all updated on my progess. Apparantely the whole process could take 7 to 9 months before my next op to put the implant in and uplift my normal boob. Watch this space.
