Leaking nipple
Leaking nipple Has anyone out there got the same problem as me. I have not met anyone with this problem.
In May 06 I had WLE, some lymph nodes removed and 4 weeks of radiotherapy. I now have lymphodema of the arm and breast and have infection after infection. I have had loads of anitbiotics that they do not want to give me any more.
The cancer scar is under the nipple, but I keep getting a discharge erupting from other areas around the nipple and they will not heal. There is no concern that it is a return of the cancer but just that the wounds will not heal.
The nipple is painful and the pressure of the lymphodema of the breast is painful too. It feels like mastitus. I think the discharge is lymphatic fluid because it is yellow.
Any suggestions on how I can help the wound to heal. It is making me so depressed.

Christiane -IF your doc has seen nipple - a spot of massage [manual lymph drainage] would help to remove excess lymph from breast and thus reduce pressure. Phone your Breast Care Nurse who will refer you to the Lymphodoema Clinic where they’ll show you how to do it and give helpful advice.
If your doc HAS NOT seen nipple get him to check it pronto.
Best wishes and hope you will soon be more comfortable, dilly
Dilly - I should have signed off ‘Christiane’ on my reply to you - This is my ‘nom de plume’.

Christiane hanging around waiting to see yet another consultant is so long drawn out and dismal. So I hope that the man/woman with the answer to your prob is the next expert you see. Sympathy and best wishes, dilly

Thanks. I hope so too.
I have yet another problem. This morning I fell over and I have broken my wrist. I am plastered up to my elbow and will be for 2 months!.
This is going to make life difficult - but I suppose I have to laugh.
I’m looking forward to a better 2007.

Thanks for your reply.
My nipple has been exposed to lots of agencies! The doctor, surgeon, breast care nurse and I also go to monthly to a lymphodema clinic. I try to do the massage myself as best as I can to reduce the pressure but nothing seems to stop the lymph seeping through the skin. Some of the lymph seems to dispurse through the body - but some comes through the skin around the nipple.
I have not yet come across anybody who has had the same problem.
I see my oncologist next week for my check up so I will see what he says.
I cannot think what else to do to help it to heal.
Thanks for coming back to me. It is reasuring that you are all around to offer advice.
