Hello again @ AMWG ( my new diabetes buddy!) Just wanted to add that its worth reporting the impacts of letrozole on your blood glucose and cholesterol via the yellow card scheme. In fact I would advise everyone to do this because a) it highlights real if rare side effects and b) it changes the stats regarding the frequency of otherwise lower ranked side effects.
N. B. I am on basal bolus (levemir/novorapid) plus Bezafibrate for cholesterol as cannot tolerate a statin. My cancer was stage 2 0 node involvement grade 3 IDC er8 pr0 her2+ on biopsy then er8 pr4 her2 negative on tissue sample after biopsy. I had ec chemo but refused paclitaxol because of the exacerbated peripheral neuropathy risk with diabetes. I had full mastectomy to reduce the risk of further surgery and stopped herceptin after 9 injections due to exacerbated heart risk with diabetes. I have been type 1 diabetic for 14 years. It was triggered by the trauma of a previous surgery under general anaesthetic. Have my next diabetes blood tests scheduled for next week. P. S. I made the case for changing from Libre2 cgm to Dexcom 7 after losing the option to use alternate arms post surgery due to lymphodoema risk. The Dexcom cgm can be used on the abdomen as well as the arm. Keep on advocating for yourself and educating those oncologists! Its not good enough for them to say theyāve never met this situation before. They need to get themselves informed by speaking to their diabetes colleagues. Oh dear! Iām ranting again! Love Tulip xxx
Hi @tulip29, it is great to find a buddy. I have been a type 1 diabetic for over 40 years and currently on an insulin pump taking Humalog, just to add to my stress this has been hard to source so had to get an emergency prescription from my hospital team for NovoRapid. I hadnāt thought about the yellow card for reporting cholesterol but will certainly do that as well as reporting higher glucose levels. Thank you.
@AMWG Itās such a personal decision and not everyone has debilitating side effects from Letrozole & the other aromatase inhibitors. I agree about being informed. You can access the Predict NHS tool by googling which is what I did. I then discussed it with my oncologist. But you might not want to do that; again itās a personal decision & thereās no right or wrong way,
Hi @klf Iāve been taking 100mcg of Thyroxine daily for 25 years and Letrozole for 20 months and there has been no change in my thyroid scores. Iāll be interested how you got when your test results are back. Did the pharmacist give you any indication on how the thyroid function would be affected by the loss of estrogen. I mean, it makes sense but doesnāt seem to have happened to me as far as I know, at least not yet. Let me know if you can. Iām having a thyroid blood test in two weeks so will look out for it.
Hi , Iāve been taking levo for just over 20 years .
She didnāt say how, I have October bloods ( NHS) and December ( private ) to compare to.
The private ones showed that my T3 was low .
Iāll let you know what they show .
