Hi everyone
I will start letrozole next week (the same week I start radiotherapy ). I was just wondering about hair…I currently have hardly any as I just finished chemo on 2 Jan. My worry is that letrozole will stop it from growing back! Does anyone know if it affects hair to that extent? I’ve started to see some regrowth already and to be honest if letrozole causes difficulties with my hair growing back, that will lead me to seriously question taking it at all. Sorry, I know that sounds shallow, but losing my hair has been one of the hardest things to take throughout this whole nightmare
Hi @sharlou, Completely empathise re hair loss. I told my surgeon that losing my hair was more devastating and traumatic than losing my breast. She looked at me astonished but I meant every word. However, it is now growing back, albeit slowly, and taking Letrozole didn’t stop that. What it did do was make my hair dry and thin. Wishing you well. Love Tulip x
Thank you Tulip. I think a lot of people who haven’t been through it underestimate the trauma of losing your hair! So happy for you that yours is growing back. Wishing you well right back at you x
Hi Shariou, I have been on Letrozole for over 5 years now. My hair grew back white which actually looked ok when it was very short. It was brown before. Gradually it has turned greyish but that could be me getting older
I used to have very thick hair but since being on Letrozole it has become very much thinner and my hairdresser says more fluffy rather than coarse. My hair grew back very quickly. I think everyone is different. I hope your hair turns out to grow quickly and you are ok.
Take care.

@Krysbe different brands seem to suit different people, it can be tricky to keep getting the same brand once you find one you like but it’s worth trying several- it could be worth it
I’m 4 yrs in with Letrozole & just came home & changed & washed my dress as I had sweated I’m used to wiping my face , my glasses slide off, but actually sweating underarms , despite wearing deodorant isn’t good…I tried a natural deodorant but it wasn’t for me.
Have you tried akt deodrant? It is very good and they do a non perfumed one.
Xx
Sorry to hear your side effects.
Talk to your team and see if you can swap to another Aromatase inhibitors. I was on Letrozole for 1 year with side effects of debilitating aches and pain, fatigue, vaginal dryness and hot flushes/heat surges. I have tried several other medications to mitigate them, some help better than others. But I hate the idea I am on 4 tablets/medications to counteract side effects of 1 (Letrozole).
So with agreement with my team I’ve had a 4 week break and I feel so much better. I’m now switching to Exemestane next week.
I was advised I could swap to Anastrozole or Tamoxifen ( not suitable if you’ve had blood clots in the past) aswell.
