Letrozole, plus Alendronic acid-now almost siezed up!

Hello.

A little while ago a few kind ladies gave me some good advice regarding taking a bisphosphonate for thinning bones, caused by Letrozole, as I was worried about it aggravating the upset stomach and occasional nausea that I already get with the Letrozole.

I started the bisphosphonate a fortnight ago, as a weekly tablet, and have followed all your advice about how to take it, and so far, no upset stomach.  However, my joint pains are now regularly so bad that I am almost seizing up!  I am very slim, and quite fit, but at 55, I now feel decades older- the joint pains, particularly in my thumbs, neck and knees, are unbelievable!

I would be grateful if any ladies on a similar medication regime, could tell me if the joint pains get better once your body has habituated to the bisphosphonate, and also whether there is a good pain killer my GP could prescribe to help me get through the bad days?  I enjoy taking our three dogs out for walks, but at the moment, I cannot manage it, as I am almost hobbling around!

Many thanks

Which bisphosphonate are you taking? I have letrozole and a Zometa infusion every month as IV also Adcal. I get achey joints especially after sitting for a while and first thing in the morning but it tends to wear off when I move around.
The monthly IV makes me tired for a day or so…don’t know if this method - instead of taking pills is better…but it may be worth asking.
Naproxen is the painkiller my GP prescribed and i take paracetamol as well.

I get aches in the hips, knees shoulders and fingers that wear off as the day gets going but after I’ve sat for a while I hobble out of my chair like an old lady. I’ve tried naproxen and it didn’t do anything except give me reflux / indigestion. I don’t think paracetamol helps either. I’m back to taking nothing and suffering. Just keep thinking that the letrozole is safeguarding me from cancer so the aches have to be lived with. I wonder if they go when we stop? I can’t imagine the freedom! I don’t have anything for calcium loss as yet.
