Global warming, recycling, me screaming. When will someone get through to manufacturers that we don’t want/need all this Bl**dy packaging. I’m going to start with toothbrushes, ever tried getting one out of those hard moulded plastic cases with the extra thick cardboard, without reaching for a crow bar aaaargh…
Agree with you Norma they are really frustrating. What about the packs of bacon and ham etc that come with that one corner that is meant to help you peel open your goods easily, yeah right. I usually end up given in to using a sharp implement and saying a few choice words about the producers.
We have been given a list by our recycling people if found putting wrong plastic in we face a fine of £200. Things like drink cartons can not be recycled in our cardboard or paper as it is waxed, cake plastic boxes cannot go in plastics either. Envelopes with plastic windows not to go in paper box unless plastic window removed and so it goes on…
Batteries - I hate trying to get them out of their packaging. And I so agree about toothbrushes - had a huge fight with one the other day. Do love a good rant Norma! Well done.
Maybe we should take our sharp implements to the shops with us and remove all unwanted packaging at the checkout. If enough of us did that the supermarkets would soon tell the manufacturers to lay off!
What about the so called “resealable” bags like the ones you get for dishwasher tablets, packs of sultanas, pasta etc right pain getting them open in the first place and then can never get them to reseal. Yes Norma, toothbrushes are the worst.
Couldn’t agree more. The trouble I had getting into a pack of batteries the other day was ridiculous.
While we’re thinking of the environment, what about people who just drop things in the street? My big bugbear at the moment is the red rubber bands that the postman just drops on the pavement, the path, the doorstep - anywhere. I’m going to start gathering them up and putting them in the postbox!! Anyone joining me?
What happened to the brown paper carrie bags we used have ( oldies only). They were sturdy with thick handles and flat bottoms so easier to pack. The first supermarket to replace plastic bags has my custom. Also this packaging in supermarkets has to be a con to make you buy more. I wanted a pomegranate last week, just one , and had to buy a plastic sealed carton of 4.
Yes I remember those bags - they were great. And Morrison’s are the worst for fruit and veg packaging. I tend to boycott them now and hit the local market - it is a question of time usually and I now have more. The market still uses brown paper bags - yippee.
I know it isn’t the neighbours by the way! I know them well enough!
Kids toys at christmas are a nightmare too, you just can’t get the flipping things out of the boxes half the time. They are stapled in to the back of the box with those plastic things that you just can’t budge ! I think that ALL packaging must be recycleable across everything from food to other stuff. I just don’t know why the mfrs do it, it must cost them a fortune ! which then gets passed on to us. And what has happened to our local milkman and glass milk bottles, they deliver plastic ones now, how daft is that ?
