Hello,
I wonder if anyone can help me. Currently uninsured after a policy matured and we moved house.
I applied for life insurance before formal diagnosis but was refused. Do I have to wait until 5 years NED or are there other options?
Sorry if this is breathtakingly stupid!

Not a stupid question at all.
As well as having Breast Cancer myself I work for a Life Insurance Company.
The answer is that it depends on the stage and grade of your disease, and whether you have completed treatment (apart from ongoing hormone treatment).
If you are stage 1, node negative you might get cover straight away, otherwise you might have to wait 2 or 5 years. there are also specialist brokers who will search out the best terms. If you can give me more info about your situation I can give you a better idea.
Hi Lakeslover,
This is very good of you, thank you. Just in case the details are useful to others; dx August 2011, stage 1 IDC, grade 2. No node involvement . Finished treatment apart from Tamoxifen . Due to be screened again August 2012.
Thank you,
Carolyn x
Hi,
At T1 N0 and G2 you might be able to get cover 1 year after all treatment except hormone treatment has been completed (I know one compnay which used to offer terms at this point but they have been taken over so I don’t know if they still do). Most companies will not offer cover for 2 years. After that you would have to pay an additional premium until around 8 years after treatment has stopped.
There is a company which specialises in offering cover where others won’t, I don’t know what they do for breast cancer, but I know they are very expensive so it is probably not worth looking into.
When you do want to apply for cover it is well worth using a broker who understands the issues as they will have a good idea which companies to look at, and therefore can get comparative quotes and avoid wasting your time.
Hi Lakeslover ,
All very helpful thank you. I shall investigate once again in August and see where things go. Much sooner than I thought so thanks.
