Like most women I thought I knew about Breast Cancer.

Like most women I thought I knew about Breast Cancer. Check yourself for lumps, visit GP if worried ,go for regular screening. Since my scare 6 weeks ago when I discovered this site I realise I knew nothing.
In the state I was in I became addicted to reading the site, all the discussion threads brought new knowledge. Reading the posts I have become so aware of the variants of BC. Thank you for this knowledge and thank you for all the support I received while waiting for the results. In my case good. It is easier to let out feelings on line rather than face to face with family and friends. The strength the participants show on this site is amazing. I will never again worry over small day to day problems, they are just part of living. I had a scare and a big wake up call on how I viewed my life.
I need to give something back now and will have to ponder what that could be, whether as a volunteer or fund raiser I owe breastcare.org a lot and the people on it my sanity.

Just like to say, your post is admirable, perhaps you could be buddy, eg, a volounteer to be there for someone who needs a friend. You could ask the moderators on here or google your local Haven for example.
The Haven is a place anyone with BC can go for info, moral support. They would welcome any help.

Best wishes n a big hug.

Hi Demi

I’m so pleased for you that your results were good. Wanting to give something back is a wonderful thought - I too have felt like that since joining the forum (unfortunately not through good results !) - have signed up to do the Ben Nevis climb later in the year (assuming I’m fit enough lol - have to see how the treatment goes)

  • also like to give back words of encouragement on here, as some way of repaying all the help that I have received.

Good luck to you in the future

Hi Demi,

I am pleased that you have found this site helpful.
I also wanted to give something back to Breast Cancer Care so I am running the London Marathon in April as part of their team, to raise much needed funds to keep this site going.

I am sure that you will find something suitable for you.

Hi Demi

So glad your results were good. Know what you mean about the support on here and good on you for wanting to do something more. We all like to read about good results tho - even tho ours havent been.

Magz - is the Ben Nevis climb advertised on this site - it is something I said to my mates I was going to aim for this year. I live in Scotland, was dx in July, and while going thro chemo I climbed Bennachie which was organised as a fundraiser for this site. When we finished that I said - okk next one is Ben Nevis. Maybe a moderator can tell me about this - or maybe if I just check out this site properly i will find out more??

Hugs to all
Fiona

Hi Fiona

I’ve had a look on the website and have found you the link to the Ben Nevis climb and how to join in if you wish!
Good luck.

Sorry I didn’t see your post earlier Fiona - but see that Jo has pointed you in the right direction. Whereabouts in Scotland are you, if you don’t mind me asking.

I haven’t climbed anything remotely resembling a mountain since I was at school (which is more years ago than I care to remember lol) - so Ben Nevis will certainly be a challenge - think I should start training now haha
