Does anyone know if this is true? I seem to remember around the time Kylie Minouge was dx that her dad also had prostate cancer. Some research in Australia was being done in this field but I haven’t really heard anything more about it. My dad was dx with prostate cancer about 5 years ago and I had E+ bc 3 years ago. Also there seems to be evidence that a proportionately higher percentage of people with these two cancers are in the A+ blood group, as my dad and I both are. Can anyone elaborate on these facts?
Hope you are all feeling well today.
Love Jannie
just read your post! My dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer 5 years ago and I was diagnosed with BC 2 months ago. we are both A+
Interesting!!!

I think there is a link between breast and prostate cancer but not sure what the evidence actually is.
For the record my dad died of prostate cancer…age 85 about 7 years after diagnosis.
Jane
Prostate and breast cancer are both hormone and growth factor driven cancers and there are some well established links.
I understand more about the link after reading the old editions of Jane Plant’s books: Your Life in Your Hands (new edition just out and worth looking for as the scientific basis is all updated too) and Prostate Cancer Understand, prevent and overcome (also new edition). I’ve just ordered mine!
My dad had prostate cancer and my mum had breast cancer (mastectomy 2 years after I had mine). I’m giving the prostate cancer books to my 2 brothers and already sent the new edition of the breast cancer book to my sister, who introduced me to Jane Plant’s theories in the first place but who thankfully so far hasn’t been diagnosed. The more we can understand how these diseases happen and can run in families not just genetically but maybe thru diet and lifestyle habits, the better we can survive them and prevent our younger generations from walking in our footsteps.
Wishing you well,
Jenny
Hi girls
Its amazing how much we can learn from this site. I know all our doctors, oncologists, nurses etc are doing their best, but it is only by reading things that I picked up on this. Surely if we are all to do our bit to beat this dreadful disease we need to be able to find out information more easily, family history and the possible risk factors etc could help us to be more aware. Any link between different cancers will in the longrun help our children etc. I know what I am trying to say, its just not getting down on paper as easily as I had hoped. Hope you all understand the meaning I am trying to put across.
Love Jan
Jane Plant argues that both breast cancer and prostate cancer are linked to consumption of diary products.
Her views are just that…views…and not backed by mainstream scientific evidence. I think the ‘advice’ in her books is highly suspicious so anyone not familiar with Jane Plant don’t automatically believe her…she sounds convincing but many don’t agree with her.
Jane
Jane, Yes you are so right. I now ask Bristol cancer centre for advice on radical claims made by people. They look at the research behind the theories and pass the knowledge on to the public. I do believe that some of what Jane says may be right but until there is really good evidence we have to take it with a pinch of salt. As it happens I have cut out dairy and red meats etc
we all have to go on what we feel is right at the end of the day!

I’m waiting for some results to see if I carry the BRCA 1 or BRCA 2 gene. There is a link between breast and prostate cancer (and also pancreatic cancer for males) and the BRCA genes.
Belinda.
Meant to add Jannie I’m also A+
