Lipofilling after WLE

Anyone had lipofilling done after WLE? I’m a year post rads now and seriously considering it - again! Wouldn’t need much done, just dent filled in.

Hi fitgirl
I’ve not had it done myself, but I’m keen to find out more about it as I’ve got a bit of a dent after surgery and would probably like to get it filled at some point. There was a thread on here some time ago on the subject, and there is a new type of lipofill now available at some hospitals. They extract fat from appropriate areas then extract the stem cells from that and inject those into your breast. The advantage of this process is that the cells integrate into the breast tissue and establish a blood supply, so don’t get re-absorbed as happens with conventional lipofill. So it should only need doing once rather than requiring repeat treatments for ever more.

Hi Fitgirl,

I have also discussed this with my consultant, who thinks it would be a good idea for me as I too only want the dent filled. Any more info on this would be great.

Found the old thread and bumped it up - it’s under reconstructive surgery, just in case it gets swamped by new posts. This site is a pain for that.

Thanks CheshireCheese i’ll have a look.

There are NICE guidelines on Lipomoddeling due out soon, so i’m keeping an eye on that to be published, it says Summer 2011. I think i’ll make my final decision based on that. I think the new method is CERS, cell enriched stem cells. I don’t think my hospital does this yet, as i was told that it would take 4 or 5 ops. Hmmm, maybe i should put it off altogether until the new method is available at my hospital! I’m waiting on the NICE guidelines, as there is a theory that it may not be that safe after a WLE (the new blood supply could trigger any dormant cancer cells)although the research look good saying this has not been seen.
Tiny Tina, are you getting this new method done, the cell enriched kind?
Not good at links but if you google NICE guidlines and then type in lipomoddeling in the search box you can read the research.
Take care

Thanks Cheshire Cheese, have been reading the old thread. I’m really keen to pursue this and to look a little more like my normal self.

It sounds like I’m in the same position as you two - waiting for the new stem cell enriched version to become available in my area. I’m sure there must be many other women out there waiting for this to be approved and offered by their local hospital.

Hi.

I had lipofilling last week, the stem cell enriched version, along with liposuction to the affected breast.

I was diagnosed November 2010, had WLE in December 2010 followed by radiotherapy ending in April 2011. Everything went well apart from that I was left with lymphoedema to the breast, which caused it to swell until it was twice the size of the unaffected breast.

A week on from the procedure, and I’m already seeing a difference now that the swelling has gone down. The liposuction was sore, but not unbearable, and although I was a bit shocked by the bruising, am really pleased with having an almost matching pair once again! Very happy to try and answer anyone’s questions about the experience from a patient’s perspective!
