Thanks Tina, what’s the CERS method? I love this site, you learn so much!! Take carex
Tina, did a bit of research and now know what CERS is, i’m sure i read about it on this forum previously. There is one thing i’ve just read whilst reading the Cancer Research UK site that worries me and apologies to those who have had this done but i’m all for sharing knowledge. This is what CRUK say on ordinary Lipofilling. I’m pretty concerned as i’ve just cancelled an appointment to have this procedure and i do not think that any NHS hospital or surgeon would risk there reputations doing something they weren’t 100% sure about but i’m still uneasy about this. Can a mammogram pick up all cancer cells? Is it safe to use after a WLE? Will try and find out.
Cancer Research UK / Breast reconstruction/Fat grafting to reshape the breast
There are some theories about why the fat reverses these radiotherapy side effects. Surgeons think that stem cells in the transplanted fat tissue may stimulate healthy breast tissue to develop in the area. Or it may be because fat can create new blood vessels that increase the blood supply in the area. There is some concern that the stem cells could trigger the growth of any cancer cells left behind after breast cancer treatment. But doctors consider that fat grafting is safe to use for breast reconstruction after mastectomy if all of the breast tissue has been removed and there is not enough tissue in other areas.
Tina, sorry clicked twice!
Hi fitgirl, there is a thread with a lady who now lives in York who had the lipofill done in 2009 in Swansea with the CERS method. In answer to your questions, no mammograms do not detect 100% of breast cancers, I had lobular cancer and this did not show on a mammogram but on U/S. I had mx but I see from certain publications that even in that scenario they are querying the risk. Not sure if you have seen this link “http://aes.sagepub.com/content/31/1/68.abstract”. Can fully understand you have so far halted the op. Let us know what else you find out. x
Hi, Thanks for the link, interesting articles, a bit technical but you get the message - some have reasonable case studies 800+ that are quite positive. It’s hard to make a decision with so much conflicting information! You end up reading all sorts of technical papers that you wouldn’t have dreamed you’d understand before dx - well for me anyway. I was even asked by a cancer nurse if i had a medical background, eh, no but i’m very interested in what’s done to my body!!! Take care x
Here’s some comments i’ve been reading

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17415234 The theory that the stem cells in the fat cells help in healing/repairing radiated tissue damage
Hi,
I am having lipofilling on the 5th March. I had a DIEP reconstruction in 2009 which has an indentation at the top and is slightly larger than the good breast. They are also creating a new nipple and putting a small implant in the other breast to achieve symmetry. Has anyone else had this many procedures at the same time and how long were you in hospital and off work?
So many questions - sorry!!!
Regards,
Tracy
Interesting reading, thank you.
I had mx and immediate DIEP on 1 March 2008 (under BUPA) but no longer have private cover. My PS has agreed to continue seeing me as an NHS patient and I saw him in December to discuss nipple recon and ‘tidying’ the recon breast and abdo scar. The breast is lumpy and dented, and a lot wider than the other one, and rads have left the skin darker and thicker.
He proposes removing the lumpy areas, which he thinks are necrotic fatty or scar tissue, filling the dents, and removing the dog ends from the abdo scar. Suggests leaving nipple recon for another 6-12 months. I don’t know what’s happening about liposuction, can he fill dents any other way?
I’ve been booked in as a day patient next Monday and had the pre-op appt yesterday. I hadn’t taken on board that this would mean general anaesthetic, a ‘proper’ operation rather than just local. I expected to go back to work the next day but have been advised to take the week off, or at least three days (I work on my feet in a hectic manual job).
I’d like to know how long anyone else had to be off work after similar surgery, and how much pain you were in? I’m close to chickening out of it now - the deformed breast is only between me and the mirror, nobody else sees it.
hi i wonder if anyone can help me i had the lipofilling about 4 weeks ago but last wed it started to weep seen my breast nurse on the thursday hate to bother here but she said it looked like what she would expect, today seemed to have had more leakage and looks as if i have had some blistering and that appears to have burst, i feel very scared i know it sounds silly but monday seems such a long way a way and i have not been given much info of what to expect after surgery.
to be honest it has out me off from having further treatment and i do not see the specialist till the 11th april.
thanks for reading.

I was off work for two weeks after my lipofilling. I suppose I could have gone back to work earlier but I found wearing a bra uncomfortable and going braless wasn’t an option. (too scarey for words!!). I’m sorry but I can’t comment on the weepy scars as I had no problems with mine at all. I can hardly notice them now 4 months on.
Hi Anna, could you give your out of hours service a ring, maybe they could just check all is still going as expected. I never had any problems with the post op but I know what you mean, how far does one pursue it? My friend who wanted lipofill in the same NHS trust as I had here has moved to Germany and was told by her new specialist that the procedure was not offered for cancer reconstruction. Apparently they think there is a safety concern. Not sure either now what my options are to even things out. Hope you get your wound sorted out. X
hi thanks for replys my husband says it looks a lot better so if i can control the freaking out i will be fine lol. it is still a bit weepy so i will see how it goes.
thanks again take care
Hi All
How is everyone getting on? I had lipo fill on my left breast recon on Friday. Looking good so far although badly bruised etc.
Apparently it took four of them to get me into long line magic pants afterwards!! Lol! I got them from Peacocks - i’m a 12/14 (chemo fat is still there a little even after 2 years) But ofcourse they only do 10/12 or 14/16 - the larger felt a bit loose - that wouldn’t do anything so I got smaller size - typical women always opt for smaller size! They seem to be ok anyway. Just conjurs up quite a picture!!!
Bruising is coming out - fat taking from stomach - taking painkillers and anti-biotics pain is ok. just very tired. I’ve been told I’ll probabably need another session and will have uplift/reduction on the right one to match. I’m wearing a sports bra all the time. Must say cleavage looks brill!!!
Any hints or help from those of you that have had this would be greatly received.
xxx
Has anyone recently had lipo remodelling following a mastectomy. My surgeon is referring me on to someone who does this and I’m struggling to find much information. We talked about diep and tram flaps but I am very skinny. He thinks they may be able to get enough fat from my thighs. Any helpers?
